And in other news, I'm warning Ferrari not to take away the Aston Martin that's in my driveway. It's there. Really. Ok, so no one but me can see it, but I'm warning you, Ferrari, BACK OFF!!!
Sony Corp, as part of its ongoing commitment to customer service, has bombed the R+D department to a smoking hole in the ground (Being Dabya references in 3...2...1... Write your own schtick, people!:-) ). When asked for an explanation, a Sony spokesperson said that Ricoh's solution "is not in Sony's best interests, and what's in SOny's best interest is in the best interest for the consumer."
In other other news, the Sony spokesperson in the previous story was just hired by Microsoft as Director Of Public Relations. A Microsoft spokesperson was quoted as saying, "His previous experience at the Iraqi Ministry of Information is what clinched it for us. This guy thinks like we do."
Yeah, I gotta agree with you. As much as I'm a Mac Fanboy, the fact is, extension conflicts in 0S9 were easily the equal of.dll hell. And then there's memory management in OS9 (*shudder*)...
Apple's pushing iLife as "Microsoft Office for the rest of your life", and while I really like it and the creative power it gives me, sometimes I don't want to sit down and fiddle around with GarageBand loops or work on the monthly family movie : I want to put my mind in neutral, blow the hell out of some pixels and relax.
Apple needs to realize that a "Digital Lifestyle" includes mindless entertainment as much as it does photos, music and movies.
Okay. I will definitely grant you that. In fact, I'll probably upgarde to one of those when it becomes somewhat reasonable, as I need to backup a hefty amount of data fairly often (iDVD projects are pretty darn big...).
But for video, I think I'm smack dab in the target market for a HiDef DVD, (60" Sony LCoS, home theater, etc), yet I don't see the need to re-buy all my DVD's and ditch my rather nice up-converting DVD player just yet, at the very least until one side or the other sorts itself out as the winner and even then there's a fair chance I'll wait and rely on whatever pure digital format is available.
I really think *both* HD-DVD and Blu-Ray are doomed. Aside from better picture quality, the reason to upgrade is...
That's right, nothing. (Okay, somewone will post another reason to upgrade in a second or two, just to prove me wrong. Bastards.:-) ).
HD-DVD/Blu-Ray will have all the widespread adoption and universal acceptance that the post-CD physical audio media has had : Limited use only by the most discriminating users. MP3's rule the music world now (and/or WMA's/AAC's, depending on your choice of online music store); You buy a CD and what's the first thing you do? Rip it onto your computer. It won't be too long until purely digital media takes over video/movies as well, leaving BluRay and HD-DVD in the dustbin of tech history.
The one problem I see is that (IMLTHO) the current iPod interface blows for anything other than Breakout clones. As a music interface, it's fantastic, but it can barely handle Solitaire.
Now, if the big screen video iPod rumours turn out to be true, all bets are off, and Sony better watch the PSP's sorry little UMD-using ass, 'cause it'll go the way of the Lynx in a friggin' eyeblink.
Umn, it's a new twist because a music channel that doesn't play music anymore slapped their label on it! It'l have all the success previous subscription-based music services have had, and more! You'll, um, get exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the new season of RealWorld vs. RoadRules vs. Reality! You'll get exclusive whiney outtakes from teens who think that $100k for a sweet 16 party is the very minimum!! You'll get all this, and more, for only $9.95 a month! That is, until we decide to raise the price to $19.95 a month, and you'll have to pay it, or your precious music goes bye-bye! Mawhahahahahah!!!!!
At least with the $0.99/track pricing model, I know that music is mine, no matter what the RIAA and Apple decide is a fair price 5 years down the road.
24Now Thomas (called Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. 25So the other disciples told him, "We have seen the Lord!"
But he said to them, "Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe it."
26A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!" 27Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe."
yes it goes on and on my friend. Some people started using it, not knowing what it was, and they'll continue using it forever just because...This is the patch that never ends, yes it goes on and on my friend...:-)
Dear God, what a bad idea that was. Let's just compare the writing of Jonathan Hales to the other Star Wars co-writer, Lawrence Kasden.
From IMDB.com: # Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones # The Scorpion King (2002) (story) # The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones: Tales of Innocence (1999) (V) # The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones: Spring Break Adventure (1999) (V) # Young Indiana Jones: Travels with Father (1996) (TV) # Kazan (1995/I) (TV) # Baree (1994) (TV) # Young Indiana Jones and the Hollywood Follies (1994) (TV) # "The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles" # "Dempsey & Makepeace" (1985) TV Series (writer) # Loophole (1981) # The Mirror Crack'd (1980) (screenplay) # "Dallas" (1978) TV Series (writer) (! -ed) # "The Guardians" (1971) TV Series (writer) # "Manhunt" (1969) TV Series (writer)
Lawrence Kasden
# The Risk Pool (2006) (announced) (screenplay) # Dreamcatcher (2003) (screenplay)) # Mumford (1999) (written by) # Wyatt Earp (1994) (written by) # The Bodyguard (1992) (written by) # Grand Canyon (1991) (written by) # Raiders of the Lost Ark: The Adaptation (1989) (V) # The Accidental Tourist (1988) (screenplay) # Silverado (1985) (written by) # The Big Chill (1983) (written by) # Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983) # Continental Divide (1981) # Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) # Body Heat (1981) # Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
Okay, there's some stinkers on Kasden's resume, but compared to Hale, he's friggin' Will Shakespeare.
I think we've found the difference in quality between the two sets of movies...

On Apple vs Apple
·
· Score: 1, Interesting
In many ways, this reminds me of SCO v. IBM or anyone of the hundreds of court battles out there now between innovating companies and companies coasting along on the inertia of their past glory. Here we have one compay that's changing how music is sold and listened to (Apple Computer) versus another that's relying on sales of 30 year old songs.
Almost all malware exploits shortcomings in the user, not the software.
And almost all auto accidents are caused by human error.
Doesn't mean there's not recalls when it turns out an accident or so is caused by defective parts. Why isn't Microsoft required to fix the holes that don't need the user? And if a particualr product is found to make it easier user-caused accidents (a la the tires on Ford Explorers), the company recalls them. Why is Windows lack of security exempt from this?
Especially if the appointee is a highly-visible and respected switcher to OSX from the open-source community.
If nothing else, it'll start an effective and accurate comparison of the state of security between OSX and Winodws, a feature of OSX that Apple has not stressed as much in their ads as they should.
And in other news, I'm warning Ferrari not to take away the Aston Martin that's in my driveway. It's there. Really. Ok, so no one but me can see it, but I'm warning you, Ferrari, BACK OFF!!!
and it causes The Evil Bit, too!

And neither one of them have enough cowbell.
Makes me love OS X all the more.

Go easy on him. He just got fired as the stage manager for Spinal Tap. :-)
"I believe the word you're looking for is, 'Good grief."."
(It's a West Wing quote).
"seeing is believing" comes from the bible?"

But I agree, if it came from there, it's long gone as the agreed source.
Dammit, and me without mod points. Well-done.
Which implies that Steve Ballmer just isn't a wartime consiglieri.
