This is what Sony's PDA's should have. While I lust in my heart after Sony's top-end models, the abilty to control and playback movies from one of their camcorders would be great.
the artists get a measly 12 cents for each download.
From all the articles there have been about the artists under the RIAA, 12% is a hell of a lot better than the cut they get normally. Sure, it's measly, but it's probably a step up. Here's to hoping it'll increase.
You haven't met the right car builders, obviously.
But to get back to you post, there is no way that I'm going to turn a hopped up street rod to my wife. Not that she couldn't handle such a machine, it's because that would not suit her needs. She needs something reliable as hell for her commute, that looks good, and the does all she asks of it.
This is/. , so the idea that technology is it's own end is a given for most of the readers here. But for the other 90% of the world, it's not. For then, technology is a means to an end.
Sites don't *accidently* put the wrong image up; the image wouldn't be loaded yet on the production servers.
What is a"site" ? No, "sites" don't do that. However, overworked, stressed frazzled code monkeys who are trying to build and test a site in advance of a major product announcement in 3 days can easily put an image in the wrong folder.
If it's anything like his columns for Wired, it will be filled with bitterness over the 2000 elections spilling over into everything he writes about. That detracts from my enjoyment of his writing. He's one of the best SF authors out there, but as of late everything he's done seems to reflect his dissapointment over the outcome of the election.
At some point, you realize you lost, pick yourself up and dust yourself off, and plan for the next one. It's done, there is no chance of the election being reversed or any other outcome. Get over it, and try to get Dubya out of office this upcoming election if you don't like what happened.
It will work right up until the G8 is released, which will not sell due to massive "spontaneous" protests that form around each machine with it inside.
the number of "Jedi Worshippers" in Australia dropped dramatically in a census taken after Episode Two came out.
Nothing like a sucky sequel to weed out the unbelievers.
All of a sudden, I have this vision of a bunch of Christians in ancient Corinth, huddled around the latest of Paul's writings. "Wait, this sucks so much compared to his first letter! That's it, I'm leaving!"
The 17' looks real sweet, but I wonder if this means the 15' model will be be getting an update soon to match some of the features found on the new models, such as built-in Bluetooth, AE, backlit keyboard, Al instead of Ti, etc.
Except for the video card, which IMO is a step back in the new models.
1. No DRM, beyond that which is already in my iPod, meaning I am free to burn CD's as I please.
2. Catalog choices. If the selection is limited to Top 40 hits of the past ten years, no way. But if the choices are wide and deep (and maybe even out of print songs as was suggested earlier, and
3. Previews, allowing me to edit out the album filler. $.99 is cheap, and most albums only have a max of 4 good tracks.

Where do you think I got the link from in the first place? ;-)

Somebody earned their paycheck. ;-)
Don't forget they're also an excellent source of clean-burning methane gas from all the bullsh*t present there.

If you're not smart enough to send your machine off to Apple Service, don't blame them.

Yes. And it's called BBEdit. ;-) .
The whole time that chase through the robot factory was onscreen, I kept thinking "Didn't I see this in Mario Brothers before?"

Oh, wait, I just asked a /. ' er to read. Nevermind.
I am reminded of an Arab proverb about not letting the camel's nose into the tent, as soon the rest of the camel will follow.

Nah, nevermind. It takes longer to post that than to make one now. ;-)
Apple Developer's Discount is quite sweet.
Next up, my 18" model of Stonehenge!
Except for the video card, which IMO is a step back in the new models.
Limewire, Hotline and an almost endless variety of Gnutella clients all run fine on the Mac, my favorite being Acquisition.

Sh!t. PBS went out of business and nobody told me?
It's only funny 'cause it's true....
And 19 years and dozens of rule books later, the quest continues..... :-)
His words, not mine. Although there certainly are some out there.
