  1. recursive searching on Incorporating Machine Learning into Firefox 2.0? · · Score: 1

Something I would like to see is if I go to news.google.com and I start reading about the current election. I would be able to to have a side bar with a list of top revelent web site associated with keywords in the article, or in meta tags. When I click on links, it compares the keywords with the original article and searches again. There should be a way to rate the website for what you feel the relevance is, allowing it to create a better search. Eventually, I should have a list of websites that are very very relevant to my subject.

This feature could use google or some other searching process, but I think it would be very useful for people who waste most of their time googling for information and trying to figure out the best keywords for a subject. These relevant searches would also be nice to save as a search bookmark.

Or better yet, screw the default and install what -you- want.

That's fine. The whole point of free software is the freedom to do what you want. Make sure you know what you are doing though and don't expect help if you are on the mailing list saying:

    "I compiled gcc 3.2 and apache 2.0..."

The reason I like bsd and why I feel it is so stable. It is the fact that the 'default' base system contains a group of tightly knit programs that have been proven to be secure and stable. Once you start adding programs that aren't default, (i feel) you lower some stability and some security.

  3. Re:PF, now... on OpenBSD Hackathon Underway · · Score: 3, Interesting

There has been a lot of babbling on the mailing list. Everyone is against it. They are sticking with 1.3.39 (i think) with all of their security fixes. There will only be updates for security reasons. To quote the general thoughts of the developers: "If you don't like it, don't bitch at us; Bitch at Apache"

Anyway, nothing is stopping you from running 2.x or any other apache. It just won't be supported.

I think that Carp/pfsync is more important than apache. Plus now there is some SMP to work with.

    Just my 2 cents.

How bout the RIAA add downloading tax to my cable, say $0.50 a month. Then just leave me alone. I buy CD's when the artist has more than 1 song that I like or if its a band I like. And even then I've already downloaded the CD to make sure they have more than one song I like.

The old days of, 'A new band that sounds like ___ so their sales should be like ____' doesn't work anymore.

I thought tha people didn't like when a browser became the desktop environment.

I think there is a slight difference. With MS, the desktop became the browser. Which allowed many bugs into the system. The reason is probably the origional desktop was never ment to be seen on an open network.

With Mozilla, the gecko engine and XUL and such is a sturdy platform (same as gtk or qt). So adding a module that creates a start button that runs 'xterm -e mozilla-firefox' when you click on it, doesn't seem the same as MS's integrated gui.

At least that's how i see it.
