"Many quality mainstream and SF channels worldwide." Where? If that was true, perhaps I'd watch TV every once in a while. Right now, I just try and catch Enterprise at whatever time the local station decides to air it each week.
Even if shag carpeting would slow them down(and I've seen Daleks climbs stairs on later seasons), it would have to be a pretty big bedroom to get out of weapon range!
Apple Retail Store? Heck, all the CompUSA's, if not others, got the free upgrade CD's. The one I used to work at still had some left over when they closed in February.
Your PBS station still carries Doctor Who? The local one here hasn't for the last 10 years. When they took it off, they said they'd love to keep showing it, and there was plenty of local demand, but they couldn't afford it anymore, since the National PBS people weren't paying for it anymore.
There were seven Doctors in the series, the FOX pilot introduced an eighth Doctor, who has also appeared in some paperback novels. That does leave a few lives, though the sixth Doctor once was put on trial by a Time Lord who turned out to be a future version of himself, one not so nice. So, unless they get #8 back, that'll leave about three for the new shows.
I've got that on VHS, and it's hilarious! Rowan was great, Jonathan Pryce was an even better Master, and some others got to the the Doctor for a little while. Hugh Grant, and even Joanna Lumly! They also did a wonderful job of duplicating the old special effects.
Daleks? They're armed, armored, and hate everybody. I sure wouldn't want to meet them, or the Cybermen, for that matter. Also, the Cybermen were forcibly recruiting others into their ranks long before the Borg were.
That American Doctor Who pilot movie some years back was so-so, and had mediocre ratings. I kinda liked it. But as others have noted, the record of American versions of British TV shows is terrible. Still, we can hope they do a good job. I need a reason to actually USE my TV every once in a while, and for more than my old Babylon 5 tapes.
I tend to ignore trolls, but I couldn't this time.
Overpriced proprietary hardware: What's proprietary? The cases? The ports are USB, Firewire, Ethernet, and modem jack. The hard drives are standard ATA, for the most part. You can't use an off the shelf motherboard and Intel processor, of course, but how many people would want to?
No way to upgrade: On my iMac DV, I've replaced my mouse, keyboard, hard drive, and added memory, a printer, and an iSub. CPU upgrades are available for some models, I just can't upgrade my video. I can't run the new FPS's on it anymore, but this machine is almost 3 years old anyway, and I can run any non-game software.
Poor price/performance ratio: I'm not going to argue about raw CPU power, but I think the easy to use interface more than compensates for that. I don't want a Windows machine at any price anyway.
Sloppy security: Where did THIS come from? Macs never get hacked, virtually never get viruses, and if you don't install Office, you don't get macro viruses, either.
Gay user base: I'll admit that my gaydar in imperfect, but nobody does any hitting on at GAMUG. There's a lot of grey hair there, anyway, with all the aging graphics professionals, desktop publishers, and senior citizen home users who come for advice.
Taco Bell, US only? Funny, I'd heard that they have a huge, busy store in Mexico City. Perhaps they're Western Hemisphere-only. But still, I'd think that most US fast food chains aren't going to be known about in the Mid-East, Far East, or Africa, so why change it?
I tend to skim most EULA's, but when it's from Microsoft, I read the whole thing word for word. I don't believe that I've seen anything quite like this, so I doubt it applies to WMP for X. If it does... well, it WAS a better program than RealPlayer.
I remember reading about it. Never have been interested in sports games, though. Did the speech recognition program work with anything besides the baseball game? I don't remember much. That was also near the end for the 99/4A, after they actually came out with an ugly beige version.
Yup, that's what my iPod is for. They can't claim it's a security risk, either, as none of these Compaq NT boxes have Firewire. Some of my coworkers try streaming Internet radio, from some site that lets them do it without extra software like WinAmp. I don't know how fat a pipe they got here, but they can't ALL do it!
Apple's practices? I'd always heard it was because Intel owned the newer AVI codexes, and wouldn't license them to Apple. Though that's rather old info and may no longer be the case, I still can't get video on any AVI I download nowadays, just sound.
The pattern doesn't really hold for me. I'm in the minority that enjoyed The Motion Picture, and the recent Director's Edition corrects some of the more confusing visuals. I don't think there's anything wrong with the Search for Spock, and consider it average, though it WAS the first movie with an official Klingon language. I've not even seen Insurrection, though.
My only problem with the Wrath of Khan is that I watched it WAAAAY too many times on cable back in the 80's. Why watch it again when you've memorized the dialogue? I didn't like First Contact; the Borg Queen concept is rather silly, and the scenes with Mr. Cochran were rather boring.
Myself, I prefer DS9's intermittent story arcs and Bajoran prophecies to TNG's threat of the week approach. Also, Deanna Troi wasn't at all hot in the first few seasons of the show.
I thought about it, before getting my 5GB iPod last week. But not only does a CD player not fit in the pocket, neither does the CD's, at least not in the dress slacks I have to wear to work. Even 2 CD's brought to work aren't going to last too long during an 8 hour work shift without a lot of replaying. $25 CD players probably go through a lot of batteries as well. I also don't own a CD burner, though I can borrow one from my father.
After a week, I can really only complain about the ear buds. They're a little big for some people's ears(not mine), felt a little uncomfortable at first, and now my ears feel funny when I'm NOT wearing them!
Well, I'm a bachelor, so logging all the food in my fridge would take, oh, 15 seconds, tops! Though there is that container of pea soup that's been down there since, oh, August?
I read this the other day, and read comments on MacCentral and elsewhere. Unless I want to be really nitpicky and anal, I don't have any real complaints about the article. I agree that EverQuest addicts and Megahertz junkies aren't going to be happy on a Mac(and we Mac users don't want them anyway), so they should stick with whatever version of Windows they're using. Same goes for those who like to pirate all their software; there's fewer people to steal software from in the Mac world. Plus, most hardcore Mac gamers are anti-piracy, because we know the Mac gaming programmers and publishers by name; we'd know exactly who we're stealing from.
Fine, let's tell all those people to stop using ACELP.net, then!
Not that I use WMP more than I have to anyway, though it's better than Real, who hasn't even bothered releasing a native player for MacOS X. The Classic version is usable, but still ranks among the ugliest and most cluttered interfaces I've ever seen.
Funny, those I've seen seem to mainly use WMP format, which rarely gives me any sound under MacOS X. On the other hand, no sound is often a good thing on such sites!
DivX on the Mac is also problematic. With third party utilities, I also get video with no sound.
For that matter, my TI 99/4A with the Speech Synthesizer add-on could say anything that I typed, and that was 20 years ago! It just required a short BASIC program, about 6 or 7 lines.
I guess you're also using OmniWeb? I'd never tried the Speech tool before tonight. Works pretty good, but I don't plan to use it often.

And no level of advertising could get me to uninstall QuickTime...

But that's all IMHO.
Myself, I prefer DS9's intermittent story arcs and Bajoran prophecies to TNG's threat of the week approach. Also, Deanna Troi wasn't at all hot in the first few seasons of the show.
No .avi files please; I haven't seen an .avi file that worked on my Mac since at least the mid-90's. I'll take QuickTime, especially if it's MPEG4.

No surprise there; aren't most of the world's magazines down with Quark? At least that's what I've heard for years.
