  1. Uh, what? on Half-Life of DNA is 521 Years, Jurassic Park Impossible After All · · Score: 3, Insightful

Wikipedia seems to have a page all about doing what this article says is impossible: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_DNA

It claims there are multiple cases of Neanderthal DNA being sequenced, and a couple quick google searches seem to indicate there are many other similar situations where DNA was recovered.

So i'm wondering, did this study perhaps prove that if nothing is done to preserve the DNA after death then... surprise! The DNA isn't preserved?

That looks more convenient than my current keyboard, which has the arrow keys on the fourth page of alternate characters. However that keyboard doesn't have Swype/SlideIt type input does it?

And even if you can get to the arrow keys just by opening up the keyboard instead of opening up the keyboard and switching through four different screens, that's still rather unwieldy for navigating through menus where you don't normally have the keyboard open in the first place.

I'm still using my HTC Nexus One, at least for a few more months until the new Nexus phones come out. It's getting a bit long in the tooth, but i'm really going to miss the combination trackball/notification light. The trackball part in particular is an awesome feature that unfortunately doesn't seem to have caught on with anyone, including HTC itself. I was worried about how well fine adjustments of the text cursor was going to work without the trackball, and after getting a Nexus 7 my fears were confirmed. Especially for the far too common case of text boxes that won't let you scroll if the text goes past the edge of the box. And it works really well for menu selection in games/apps that are smart enough to handle the alternate method.

And given that Simple Mobile is just a T-Mobile MVNO reseller, if you actually think T-Mobile is struggling and merging with MetroPCS isn't going to save them, then switching over to Simple Mobile may not help you much.

As for #8, you're doing something wrong. T-Mobile was happy to offer me special deals for signing a contract with them even though i'm a current customer. I keep saying no of course, because i like not being tied down. Of course given that going by #4 you like the idea of not being tied down by a contract i don't see why you care whether or not T-Mobile will give you a discount for signing a contract or not.

First of all, they're pretty much saying that they're going to keep the range of plans they already have, so if those people signed up for that carrier under the current plans, why would they leave after the merger?

Second, it looks like both T-Mobile and MetroPCS have family plans, so the "no family plans" part seems to be just plain wrong.

The reason they get respect is because they do science. They may not be the most accurate and exacting scientists, and they often make mistakes. But they still do science. The have a question, they make a hypothesis, they test the hypothesis, they analyze what happened and make conclusions, and they put the results up for peer review. And more than once they've gone back and revisited something because the result of that peer review was "you did it wrong."

So they do science, and they make it fun, and for a lot of the things they test they don't need the kind of accuracy that "real" scientist do for "real" science. In fact i'd argue that they're at least as accurate as an average kid's science project for school, and are you going to argue that we shouldn't reach kids science in school because clearly they're not able to maintain appropriate levels of accuracy?

And both you and the GP seem to be missing the point that although cheaper low efficiency cells are good, they can't cover every case. Roofs aren't the only place people want to put solar cells. Sometimes you have a limited area of real estate to work with, at which point the efficiency, i.e. the power density, becomes rather important.

Because i can just image the first time they get hacked and they load up, say for example, goatsecx, and refuse to turn off. And you probably can't even close your eyes to shut it out because they're under your eyelids. (I presume the contacts will be designed to stop displaying when your eyes are closed, but that of course will be overridden by the hack.)
