You seem to not even know about UnxUtils, which happens to contain a native win32 port of wget and many other utils. I remember Evolution in 1998 too, what a piece of crap that was. It sure was pretty, but it really liked to hose the system.
And not to nitpick, but GTA on the PS2 is really bad. People just ignore all the slowdown and terrible aiming or something. On top of that, there's Multi-theft auto, something not possible on the PS2.
It sounds like you've used an older version of Windows. I have a USB Webcam and a USB Scanner, but I never installed any drivers to use them, I just plugged them in. I didn't need to use mount, everything was automatic. The scanner and camera showed up in all the applications that were scanner/camera capable, and it was an easy visit to MSN.com to get a chat program that could do video.
I agree, the parent is no troll. Just look at The Smashing Pumpkins. They've given away several of their albums and it's hardly a new thing. While it's nice that they did it, the post seems like a me-too in comparison.

You seem to have also been mistaken, as I was talking about 1 computer over 5 release cycles. However, Windows XP Upgrade (Home) is $100, which is $30 less than OSX upgrades, and only came once in 5 OSX upgrade cycles.
Well, the Revolution's different processors are also a big change, as they don't compute as well as Sony or MS's. Thus they also provide a hard hurdle to overcome. So the Revolution gives you not just a different architecture to worry about, but a different controller. Most gameplay can be scripted easily, so all you need is a basic engine up to run the scripts.
It appears everyone is forgetting that this is to allow the desktop renderer to use DirectX in a fairly exclusive mode. This is good for the desktop as switching between OGL/DX contexts is a big hit. And of course, should you want you can get a third party OGL driver (NV/ATI likely) that will fully accelerate your OGL stuff, but disable your eye candy desktop.
I call BS. I have a friend in Aussland that I played SC with all the time. I live in Amerika and our pings to each other were just fine. We could even play with others just fine. Other people would sometimes lag out and he would stay.
The problem here is that you can already do what you described. There is an ip game mode where you and a friend can connect and play together, outside of battle.net
Bnetd may not have been a key generator, but it served the same purpose. It provided the only service that was missing when one used a CD-key that was not valid.
Unless you copy that data from the lock too, you're liable to get a big crash. As even just accessing the data that could be changing (or being deleted) could cause you big headaches. So you have to lock while working on that data and unlock when finished.
One of the big problems AMD has with retailers seems to be their lack of ability to supply chips. Who wants to base their stock on stuff that might not arrive? Thus losing business to someone else.

Mod parent insightfull.... Or smth... An interesting idea it is.

Unless you try to pause or fast forward.

You seem to be under the impress that the doc viewer will not open older documents. I call your bluff.
You mean unless they mark it wontfix for a few years and then someone exploits it in which case they're all over it?

I wasn't talking about 5 computers, that's 1 computer over 5 release cycles.
Apple OSX 10.4, that's 5 upgrades at $130 each. A total of $650 before tax. So at least for the OS, MS is pretty low actually.

"will soon have" and vapor should be synonyms... Until it's out, it doesn't count.

According to version tracker, StarCraft 1.09 came about 2002-02-11. No idea when bnetd was started.

Diablo 2 had TCP/IP from the start.
Another thing that would cause lag in WC3 was often people who were using map hacks.

Ultima 8 had that too. Eat the wrong type of mushrooms and the screen gets all funky. You could get drunk too, which was fun.

So do most actors in movies. It always makes me laugh when there's a computer scene.
