If you read the parent of your post, you will see that devices containing the FAT filesystem are not included. Devices that can read/write the FAT filesystem are. This means USB flash keys are not included, as the USB device does not handle the file system, it only handles reading and writing of raw data (Much like any drive).

This is pure FUD. Just check MSDN for information on the apparently "hidden" Windows APIs. You can build a media player with the WMP API's, DirectShow, or even just from scratch (ex WinAmp/FreeAmp). If you use DirectShow or WMP you can even play WMA/WMV.

MSDN has lots of examples and answers to questions as to how to build SuperPad, which is a more complex version of Notepad. Since MSDN has it all in one place, this makes OSS's seeming advantage a disadvantage as you have to scour the internets looking for what you need.

The breaking of apps in SP2 was more related to the NX bit being turned on. It can be turned of, thus rendering those applications useable again. Certain apps written for specific versions of other libraries sometimes break. Such as Blood Omen: Legacy Of Kain. However, someone hacked the exe to disable the check and it runs just fine on WinXP.

Yes, however Apple charges you $130 because their version requires their new OS version. They aren't giving you anything, they are only taking away. You once had an app that worked on your current version of OS, but now that app is gone and the only way to get a newer version is to upgrade to Apple's newer OS version, at $130.

With such a horribly designed web page, it's hard to tell what the hell Quicksilver is. You didn't describe it at all, so until someone does that point is moot. I see no difference in the OS telling you what to use for tasks than for the OS's company to tell you what to use. Which is apparently the Apple way... If something becomes popular they build a competing version and give it away, squashing the competition.
