You may have another problem. I've used KDE since the 1.x days, on a pentium1 120MHZ/128MB RAM, and didn't have any problems then. Now I run 3.5 on an Athlon1800/1024MB RAM, and stuff is as snappy as can be. The slowest part, startup, has been dramatically improved since 3.4 and now the only thing that is slow is starting OOo. Things to look at may include swap (KDE loves swap to be available (even though it uses virtually none on my machine), or memory (EVERYTHING runs faster with more RAM).

You can change all that. When I pop in an audio-cd, I don't get ANY dialog. ALL these dialogs have a "Don't ask again" option and a "Make this the default" option, and these work. Same goes for connecting your camera, or whatever USB-device or type of CD or DVD you insert. Make the right (for you) choice the first time the dialogs appear, and you won't be bothered by them ever again. And if you later find out that you did not make the right (for you) choice, you can change it in the controlcenter (kontrolkenter?).
I've always wondered why people count in words per minute instead of characters. I mean, 50 or 60 times the word a is somewhat slower typing then 50 or 60 times the word pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis.
KDE needs to accept the fact, that most people hate the 1 inch bar on the bottom of a default install. I do not know a single person (~30) that do not rearrange the bars to look like a Mac.
Well, you don't know me (that I know of anyhow), but I'm 38, use KDE exclusively on my pc's at home and on my pc and Sun workstation at work, and none of my bars look like a Mac. As for the 1 inch bar, some people I know really like it, others, like me, use autohide. Zero inch bar except when you need it.
Always explain it as Digital Restriction Management. It restricts the way you get to use your CD's, DVD's, computer, etc. When put in those terms, people tend to understand that DRM == EVIL.
But be realistic - you were notified that the domain was expiring.
Had you bothered to even just read the write-up, you'd have seen:
I also did not receive notice that it was to expire either.
That's one of your arguments out of the window. Second, with pre-selling expiring domains, and no expiry-notification (although you could keep track of it yourself, probably), buying a 5 to 10 year claim only means you have a chance of losing your domain after 5 or 10 years, as opposed to the submitters 3 years. So I fail to see how this will resolve anything.
Can you imagine what being shat upon by one of these would be like?
I attended a training once where one person consistently spoke about dragondrop instead of drag and drop. My imagination is way to visual for that kind of thing...
wouldn't that be methane? immediately obsoleting all environmental benefits from using hydrogen.
hm... a car running on farting cows, now that would be a sight...
that was funny.
(bloody hell, I type too fast. slashdot refused my comment because there were only 15 seconds between hitting reply and hitting submit...)
This is insane. Where is the democracy if laws are passed "for institutional reasons as to not create a precedent" when this precedent would be to respect the democratic will ?
I fear that is exactly the reason they do not want to create a precedent.
Given that the kg prototype has lost 50 micrograms over the last 100 years I'm guessing 0.999995kg?
Since the kilogram is defined as the weight (or mass, I'm always confused by the two) of the platinum cylinder, it still weighs 1 kg. Everything else in the universe however has gotten heavier, 50 micrograms per kilogram to be exact.
It's got about 4 different invocation types depending on what you're trying to do..
Try move a processorboard on a SunFire system. depending on where you're accessing the board it's/Ny/Bx or Ny:Bx or Ny::Bx or Ny.Bx And nowhere it says which one you should use when.
So if you want to start a flamewar you should rely on trusted methods like the metric system.
That argument has been won without USians realizing it. As with the UK system these measures were originally defined by physical standard measures - the yard, the pound, the gallon and the bushel. They are now all defined by reference to the S I measures of the metre, the kilogram and the litre. These equivalent measures are exact. See here.

That must be the funniest post in ages.

Hence the NEED for creativity. How else will children be able to make ANY sense of whatever it is that is posted there?

can't believe that hasn't happened yet. great post man, smart and well thought-out.
I'm not sure whether your post is funny or insightful. It does seem to reflect reality though.
Try these in winter.
HARMLESS AND BENIGN, they said. You just missed out on $25k.

OH NO! They've patented THAT, too?
And nowhere it says which one you should use when.
