Everyone of the argument planks in the proposed bill is good, and not just for Peru. Every sovereign government based upon the ideas of representative democracy can expect similar gains if they were to follow the same principles. They are logical principles.
Free, unencumbered and open communication are the hallmarks of any society that hopes to better itself. Restricting communication to those who can afford to pay for a read/write access device, such as MS Word or Corel Wordperfect or whatever, is an inefficiency, pure and simple.
Enduring archival of public documents is, likewise, important for any society that wishes to learn from history instead of repeating the same mistakes. A written language used to be enough to guarantee such archival. Now, the essential medium is no longer paper, but the authoring and reading of documents is no longer just a matter of learning how to read and write, it's become of matter of having paid all of the taxes.
National security issues of knowing exactly what it is you are running. This is one issue that largely continues beneath the surface. It's very surprising to me that in the post 9/11 world that more hasn't been made of critical infrastructure running only programs you can see for yourself and compile for yourself.
At this very moment, Microsoft is crying out a collective "ouch!"
What do you think? Now that Microsoft sees they are dealing with someone who knows and understands something about computers and software, will they send more letters out, trying to find some ignoramus who believes them?
I may get moderated down for this, but Micro$haft really sucks donkey balls. What business it it of theirs to dictate what kind of software a nation uses. This is jus the kind of shit everybody hates Mickey$oft so much. Haven't they learned anything from the trials in USA? People don't like their practices.
I am glad that more and more governments are turning to Linux and other free (as in speech) alternatives when searching for software. If Microshit doesn't want this to happen, they have to radically change their direction. Instead of adding more features to their software, they should concentrate more on making their software secure. Windows - the Swiss cheese of Operating systems. What would be better advertising than "We have concentrated on security to keep your computer from getting infected by all kinds of malware. We have consulted several security experts that have analyzed our software thorougly." And actually doing it as well. Of course anyone can make good-looking slogans, I just did;-), but to really do it. That defines good software. Not that I actually read the article, but let's how much cock the moderators have smoked today. Microsoft: Please do us all a favor and make your software secure. That way everybody wins. Tha customers are happy and willing to buy more of your products.
Imagine if you had a working sense of humor!!!

I have wondered why does the icon for the topic Microsoft have Bill gates as borg. Slashdot has more collective mind.
SPILLING, SPILLING! If you're going to spill something, at least get it right!
1. Support the MPAA
2. Boycott Linux
And it is also protected by the second amendment.
