Bullshit. My ma's old Kenmore dryer lasted 30 yrs with only *one* service call -- for a worn-out belt that I could have changed myself. The electromechanical controls were still working just fine when she scrapped it in 2001. This is with normal use every other day for a household of five.
I hate to say it, but this AC speaks the truth. I spent 20 years using linux exclusively on the desktop, all the way from 1996 to 2016. Some slackware, lots of RH and SuSE, finishing up with Debian.
I now run FreeBSD and didn't look back.
The stability and documentation of BSd is *exactly* what the major linux flavors *need to have* in order to stay competitive going forward, IMHO.
" Letting a monopoly write your legislation should be illegal." . . Actually, letting any single entity or individual write your legislation ought to be illegal. Especially if they have a vested interest or a conflict of interest.
UNIX Power Tools by JPeek et al from O'Reilly. This ought to be the bible, the required reading, for anyone into UNIX or similar systems, just IMHO. I have a very worn and dog-eared copy of the 2nd edition and I still use it 16 yrs later... its that good. Absolutely timeless classic of the genre.
Bill shot and fud. Tell me why the Scandinavian countries and the Germans have probably better outcomes for less, with none of the scare points you're so sure of. Yo do realize that everyone can get paid just fine working at a non profit right? And no, Obamacare isnt even close to universal healthcare unless you're a tool of Fox news. Do you really believe Obama is socialist or something? His whole healthcare plan was a right wing gimme be cause he is fundamentally right wing regardless of the D after the name.
Just wanted to say "thank you" to both Linus and GNU for giving me a system that I can appreciate, grow with, and live with. And slashdot too, for a forum to celebrate it on (I remember when they created the logins, the moderation, and the meta.....)
"How else can you account for 10% approval ratings combined with a 95% reelection rate?"
Quite easily, They're called "rigged elections". It's nothing new; during the 1968 presidential election, Hubert Humphrey's mic would randomly and abdruptly cut off in mid-sentence....
Or you can fake it with really good scheduling and context switching. Why is it that I was able to simultaneously watch a realplayer video in Netscape 4.x while editing a doc in OpenOffice with NO lag or skips or jitters, on a 200mHz box with 1 gig of ram in 1998, but I can't do that now with 2.6 gHz and 4 gigs? This is starting to really bug me, like where the FUCV is all that horsepower going??? NOTE all of this is on Linux, various flavors. My Time-Warner cable is easily able to saturate the box during off-peak hours.
Did you know that diesel engines run just fine on raw veggie oil with few or no modifications? It was common practice during WWII. Totally renewable, that.
There is a reason why the Left (as opposed to the Democrats or the Liberals) refers to the NYT as "Pravda on the Hudson". Lately, the Washington Post is the same way -- just check their headlines. If you are paying any atttention at all, you will notice that Hillary is running to the right of everyone on policy and on her actual history in office. Notice lately how they cranked it up to 11 regarding what Trump *might* do, while completely ignoring what Hillary actually *has* done.... meanwhile the media is acting all innocent as if they are governed by a bunch of angels. When in fact, they need to be punched in the face and hard.

Can't remember that. Can you call the nurse, I need my diapers changed again. What the fuck do you mean, Eisenhower died !!??

Maybe the Facebook people are Russian.
It's called the FCC.
The lumberjack song?
This is all starting to remind me *so* much, of what the scene was like back in the 1990s...
Or my favorite, the DEC Alpha...
How about backing up to DVDs?. They hold lots of data. Had an article here the other day about optical drives...

Wanna get depressed, just take a look at the ISDS provisions of the TPP.... this will become commonplace if it passes
Wanna blow your mind, try whitehouse.com. Yep the US is in on it.
It's an Italian version of Debian.
Did you know that diesel engines run just fine on raw veggie oil with few or no modifications? It was common practice during WWII. Totally renewable, that.

"No, we're fine with it."
It even feels good.
