This is true. However I would also point out that, the producers have no right to my wallet if I say so. Nor *should* they have the right to destroy hundreds of years of creative social commons. There are certain species of antisocial psycopaths which don't believe in any kind of sharing or commons, full stop -- and they run some of the largest corps extant. I know good and well that they would love to charge for every instance every time a movie or CD is played. Too bad, I would like world peace also.

Far as the vulns and devs go, you have CVE and regular dev lists at the major players such as RedHat, SuSE, Cannonical, etc. RedHat in particular is known for fixing stuff on their enterprise contracts.

So I can't decide if you're just trolling, or badly misinformed.

One big reason why things are the way they are, is that corporate types want somebody to blame when things go pear-shaped. There's not many linux companies of enough size to handle that. Just RedHat and SuSe.

Another reason is yes, the apps. The simply *must* have MS Access and integration with the whole Office suite. Anything that doesn't have this is likely a non-starter.

Perhaps you're too young to remember the 80's and 90's. Microsoft has been found guilty of some extremely asshole monopolistic behavior. When one is found guilty of such things there is a different set of rules and expectations. Yes, even legally. Basically they've never actually changed their ways, likely because of never actually changing their thinking. They've *never* gotten the concept of playing with others.
