Actually, I buy tickets to my local philharmonic. I get to meet the artists, etc. The few movies and CD's that I own were bought and paid for years ago. That was my solution to the issue.
OTOH I recently took a bit of a vacation. There were no clock radios, linux boxes, or PDA's involved.
Let alone networked ones which can get the current time.
Ya know what? The Sun, Moon, and Earth still revolved and rotated on their scheculed path. The rest of the galaxy did the clockwork thing. And I didn't worry about any of it.
Yeah, there is a time and a place (and I used to use both WWV and DeutscheWelle), and things have come a long ways. But I doubt that changing the way we measure things is going to change an absolute.
One thing I notice, however, is that this language did not appear until *after* the Canopy/SCO settlement (WRT Noorda family trust vs Yarro).
Now it seems that Yarro is left holding his own bag.
Conforming to world view isn't the question. The question is one of reporting independently verifiable fact, without the innuendo if possible. This sort of issue is usually filed under the heading of "journalistic ethics" or some such. The O'Gara case just happens to add some laws to that mix WRT stalking.
IMHO the question is not one of idealism vs realism. Rather, the question is one of *whose* ideals and realities, and why? That said, forward all you want; we wouldn't be having this conversation if it were not for a system built by both types.
In the USA anyway, minors aren't allowed to enter into aything legally binding. If they do, it is considered nulll and void. So much for the EULA and movie rights for this "Thought Thief" thing!
Right, it's easy to be a "Monday night quarterback".
Nope, I don't buy it. Unless you want me to say that MS people are idots.
They're not idiots at all IMHO; it was a conscious design decision.
It's not like any of this wasn't known years in advance.
Guess what? I want my TV to be just that: a TV. That's why the knob goes "thunk" when you turn it to a different chan. If I want to see something again, then I'll *buy a copy of the movie*.
Go figure.
Same goes for the phone (Bell model 500), radio, software, etc.
And FWIW just IMHO most of the crap that is available nowdays is just that: crap. I get along just fine without any of it. I don't *need* electronic shit to have a life, thinksyouverymuch.
Personal data is already quite expensive for the persons it describes. I do agree with your sentiment.
I agree. Imho the answer is for the companies to use *their own* in-house couriers to transfer data; not third parties with limited liability.

I have to wonder who will claim the IP ownership of that pic.

Hi, guys
If you wrote it, you own it. Just because you share it freely doesn't change that.
The article is asking the wrong question IMHO; a better question would be, "Is copyright hard to enforce under GPL circumstances?"
Yeah, but can it get horny?
"Ethics panel slides back to reveal hot tub!"

Protecting the interests of shareholders, indeed. And guess what happens when all the major shareholders are either insiders or institutionals?

Some of us googled who his daddy is.

Nah, its not just you IMHO. The Marketing Dept. wants you to use *their* browser.
"Pro-actively enabling the supersymmetry between bosons and fermions..."
I'm pretty sure Microsoft would like to do away with the notion of standing on the shoulders of giants if they aren't allowed to be the *only* giant.

Because you bought it, and you want it to be usable. I know that's kinda recursive; read the EULA tho.
Cat got your tongue? (something important seems to be missing from your comment ... like the body or the subject!)

IMHO, for some people everything has a price. This includes such things as credibility, trust, and freedoms.
Hi MathFox. ISTR a recent kerneltrap.org article about their server load, etc.
