    I though it was blindingly obvious at the announcement that Mototola only saw Linux as a free os to run a Java VM on, if they had a hardware chip they could run the VM on Linux would be in the bin for the next product release.

Steve did warn though that there had been few increases lately in the performance of traditional American pencils and paper so the new artists might not be able to function to their full potential.

    Maybe most people are capable of understanding computers but most geeks are such shitty communicators they just cant explain things clearly enough, often because they just dont understand the subject well enough themselves half the time.

    What exactly is the mess the US in because of software patents? I dont see daily reports of companies closing and people losing their livihoods over software patents. I dont see reports of people dying because of software patents. I dont see the US declaring war on contries because they have violated US software patents. So for all the whining and girlie bitching on /. about what _might_ happen do you actually have a single concrete example of why software patents are sooooooooo bad?

    I like to play with Python occasionally but when I see something like

    hat said, there are a few things in the book that I tend to disagree with. For example, the author dissuades you from using destructors in your code, but in my experience they're far more reliable, and a better place to do some cleanup, than he states.

    I really have to wonder. Does someone have no idea what they are talking about or does a certain language have a very crappy garbage collector.

    Anyone care to offer some insights as to why the reviewer made this statement?

    You cant be serious. These games have all been done, and probably done better before, and are history for most people. There is _nothing_ to live up to when you produce a cheap copy of old technology because expectations have already moved way beyond your implemention.

    There is a perfectly good reason, its called choice. There is no one solution that fits all approach. .NET is like Java in that its a minimilist rather that a Ruby style humanitarian interface approach were you can take the basics or roll your own implemenation. The chiice is yours.

    Damn right you dont know. .NET is an excellent platform for developers who know who they are doing to build the solutions their customers require and there is still room for the wannabies to mutilate office components when they feel the urge. Of course its for application development, thats what business requires and what most of us get paid to deliver.
