that the tens of thousands of geeks out there can compete to meet with the one of the 2 geek girls in the world so the possibility of the uber geek child can become a reality.
Why could he not have just whipped out what ever passed for hand held GPS at the time and provided map co-ordinates ? He might have been a decent philosopher but he was a crap travel writer.
You assume people want to spend time to learn it. I dont have to go learn to drive everytime I get into a different car thought do I. As to your points
a) an irrational fear due to the image of *nix's being some arcane, command line driven OS for geeks
Weakest argument ever. The majority of people dont even know what unix is, and more importantly they dont care.
As to the fear of change it more 'pain in the ass because it doesnt work like windows does for me'. It might be unfortunate but its a fact MS got there first and Linux has a ways to go before it sufficiently emulates Windows to be a painless transition for the user. Just look at the no of posts on the recent cut and paste paradigm for gods sake.
No, more likely they are looking at covering their own asses in future. The patenting system at the moment is a real threat to companies, particularly smaller ones trying to make a buck. When MS get bitch slapped in court for 500 million over a stupid patent (its under appeal or review I think) you can bet that grabbed a lot of CEO interest adn instilled a desire to 'improve' the system.
I set it to robot guard mode when I go to bed. God help any intruder it encounters its frightening suction power, unless of course the intruder is a pervert and enjoys that sort of thing.
Anyway it was just telling me it cant wait to see this movie, apparently one of the actors is a real hell raiser, sort of the Colin Farrell of the robot entertainment industry and the other one is quite cute (purely from an engineering perspective so it tells me).
Sort of putting the cart before the horse is it not, building significant applications when the platform is in beta. Personally I would have anyone suggesting porting major applications, or building them for that matter, to an unproven beta platform taken outside and beaten thoroughly.
Fair play to the guy for spotting it and warning Linksys but to go and post it in a public board a couple of days later (after the weekend) is just asking for trouble. Could he not have waited a week to give Linksys a chance to notify as many customers as possible before going public ?
Actually I got the record by replacing my mouse every 2 years with a younger one. I have had 6 incarnations of Fifi so far and amazingly she looks as young as ever.
It seems to me that it's pretty easy to slap together hardware systems, but developing software systems is a little more daunting of a task. In hardware, it's like putting legos together.
What drugs are you taking? You have the argument completely fuck ways. Anyone can churn out software at little or no cost, building a FAB is an plant entirely different matter.
It was a joke. I know its a pain when a big download goes pear shaped just before completion. Actually its something I am surprised the major distros have not addressed yet (OK I know they want you to buy the CD's from them). Several popular distros require 3 install CD's which run to about 2 GB. Now lets be honest here people, thats fucking stupid. Why cant I download a single CD installer that gives me a complete basic working system (700 MB will get just about everything most people will need anyway) and let me download other apps and utilities as/if I require them?
You forget many readers are from the US and they are becoming increasingly concerned that their technological lead in space is being eroded. I think the US really would prefer to have all other countries depend on it for satellite and space access.
Eating!, Eating!! you selfish selfish bastard. I remember when I was a developer there was no eating for us. No, we would suck rocks for days to extract a few minerals and salts. Obviously though a developer cannot live on rocks alone so we would rectally insert small pieces of lumber and the occasional shrub into our colons to make sure we had a balanced diet and plenty of roughage. Ah those were the days !!
I think you are right on the money here. HP embarassed themselves with their indecision on Bluestone. Selecting MySQL and JBoss does not inspire confidence that HP will be a factor in the services market with the big players which is where the real money is these days, both MySQL and JBoss lack serious enterprise grunt. Also if you are looking to build a reputation JBoss might be a tad on the volatile side.
It seems a strange choice that given their resources HP could have taken stewardship of other server projects and customised them for their needs. MySQL and JBoss looks like the bargain basement quick fix.
What are you asking here for? Call Dell and ask them. When enough people do that they will probably provide it. One issue would be driver support on their higher end systems, another would be what distro should they provide, there will only be moaning if geekoid the geek cant get his favourite distro pre installed and I imagine supporting several distros would be a major pain in the ass for Dell. I would think Dell would rather provide an unformatted drive and an installer dvd of your requested distro and dump the install grief on the enduser.
The product has a lot to do with Java. Its SUN's attempt to push a Java enabled development environment out of the box. Many of us have positive attitudes towards Java so there is a certain logic to doing this. I admit I have not looked at Nettbeans for a while but I remember it being ok, if a little slow and probably better suited to newbies and Visual Studio crossovers than Eclipse.
As a side note if OS products were judged on their names alone no one would use the majority of them.

How exactly should you refer to a bunch of people on segways?

has already volunteered. He says he wants to make Hubble the cleanest telescope in space.
Allen, founder and chairman of Vulcan Inc,
The Vulcans are helping them out. I wont be at all surprised if SpaceShipOne looks like a Zephram Cochran design.

I have been trying to download Mandrake 10.0 for everyone, and it keeps dying at 98%.
Well you dont need to download a copy for me, I already have one so that should get you to about 98.00000000000001%

I'll tell IBM to shut down their Linux sponsorship and investment so in that case.
