I was thrilled to have a rocket-fast system again - until I tried to hibernate my laptop. Note that the hibernation file is unrelated to the swap/paging space.
Sorry, I have hibernation on my laptop and desktop and use it several times a day. I've also turned off "virtual memory" a long time ago.
This runs most esceptionally on X SP3. Turn off your theme while you are at it. That is a resource hog too.
and that is the only reason why I did not play the game a second time.

My daughter enjoyed the "hacking" too. I played the FPS bits and she hacked everything. So I should change my original statement from "sucked ass" to "brought my daughter and I closer".
I played alone briefly and the mini-games just pissed me off... (;-{)}

... polling intervals can usually be set down to 60 seconds and the network overhead is something like a few K for quite a large number of systems. Add to that the fact that most enterprises can accumulate 6-8 agents for various applications and eventually your computers can be quite full of these little to no cpu usage agents.
Work for an vendor of "agent less" monitoring solutions there AC? (:-{)}
Unless you are blessed with tons of unused bandwith, cranking the polling interval to 60 seconds for thousands of devices will decimate your NW, leading to a lynch mob of NW Admins, managers and end users outside your door.
To your second point, if you need 6-8 agents on each computer you have selected the wrong monitoring vendor. I find one per server is just fine.
Finally, I'll point out that you've wisely avoided the subject of monitoring depth.
Please know that my perspective is systems monitoring opposed to the mostly NW orientation of the original (very good) article.
The main difference for my company's application is that an agent can tell you immediately of service degradation while an agent-less solution must wait for the next polling interval. As the article mentions, another important consideration is that agents can drill much deeper.
Importantly, agents require less NW overhead but take up more, often cheaper, RAM, disk and CPU resources.
In my current situation, my approach is to deploy agents wherever possible.
The guy with the Suburban could RIDE A DAMN BIKE. It may take him an hour each way including a shower. The problem with trading to a Civic is that the Suburban will just be driven around by someone else. Disposing of the thing outright is also environmentally expensive.
I moved closer to work so that I can ride my bike. My gas guzzler Caddy (a gift) is driven once a month to see family in the 'burbs. Keeping the speed under 65 gives me >22 mpg costing me and Ma Earth about three gallons a month.
So the environment a winner, my pocketbook wins not paying expenses for a brand new Prius, I don't have the stress of commuting to the 'burbs every damn day and I am in a hell of a lot better shape!
The term "Alpha Geek" was employed to describe why I might need/enjoy all the crap during the course of my day. It was my hope to avoid an exchange just like this one.
Oh. And the reference to "Yoga instructor" that flew over your head was that good ones study human anatomy.
If you don't start paying attention when people are trying to 'splain shit to you someday you too will study anatomy, with your Doctor as your instructor!
It may not be logical to you but that don't make it wrong.
Peace,
Mild Bill

No links? WTF?
I hope my stupid Comcast DVR figures that out.
Oh well, the good news is that Sci fi is hella fast getting to On Demand.
Bill
Does this happen to anyone else?

Back in the day I bought a PS2 because it allowed me to also play DVDs. Blu-Ray is the reason that I'm waiting for the PS3.
$600 for a next gen console that also plays all my PS2 games and a next gen movie player? Sign me up!
I gotta this there's a hell of a lot of people that see this value proposition besides myself.
Cheers,
Bill
PS But I hope Sony can speed it up a bit. I've had a 360 in my hands at Costco twice now and had to talk myself down.

And I've got a bridge you really need to look at.
Seriously, Voxel even specified "distributions". You are discussing kernel versions a completely different topic.
Jesus Fucking Christ man. Don't be such a zealot that you can't comprehend a valid point in opposition to your cherished perspective.

Reformat and reinstall every six months.
In the meantime don't install anything you don't really need.
This is a good question. I'll be watching this thread!
