6:50 am get up, shower, eat HEALTHY breakfast.
7:55 am get to work.
12:00 noon lunch
4:00 pm leave work
4:30pm get home
4:30 - 5:30 pm, misc chores
5:30pm - 6:30pm go to my gym and work out.
7:00 pm eat supper and start gaming if no other chores
around 11:00 pm - 12:00pm hit they hay
I can easily do everything I need to and still game for 3 - 5 hours a night, AND maintain nearly 7 - 8 hours of sleep.
That's my Monday through Friday usually, though it varies if my GIRLFRIEND does not work that evening.
Weekends I am usually away from home, but sometimes will spend an additional 8 - 12 hours between the Friday night - Sunday evening time.
Lets see you maintain this kind of schedule you lazy shit.
So that is on average 15 - 32 hours of gaming, AND maintaining all other aspects of my life.
FURTHERMORE, I am only 22, and I guarantee that I have accomplished WAY more in my life than you have by this age.
Sucker.
I know many adults, teens, and kids that come home and watch TV straight away after work, school or whatever. They eat, fold laundry, ect in front of the TV, at 6 hours per day on average.
So if I think that there is nothing good on TV and decide to play everquest instead, an online game which actually allows me to interact with other people for 40 - 50 hours a week, this is a problem?
I do not think that the majority are geeks playing either. Last week I played with an 11 year old, and he was actually keeping up with our group of 23 year olds. I have also played with several 30+ players.
The point is you cannot just apply a general label and age class to anything in life without actual raw data. If sony would give you their demographic information, THEN you can make an argument on that data. I am not talking about the article I am talking about all you "non geek" slashdot readers, ( isn't that an oxy moron ) , that thing that geeks / dorks / virgins are the only ones playing games a lot, ( you forgot crank addicts, they game 280 hours a week ).
Its all Bush's fault, all this pollution and global warming. Whatever people. I am getting sick of everyone bashing on our presidents. It happens with EVERY SINGLE president that comes to office. Can't you people just stop your bitching?
RTFA! This, added to my own theory that the earth may be creeping closer to the sun every 10 years, could mean that global warming is less of an issue we can deal with, and more of just be something we cannot evade.
Taken from this page:
"When ozone molecules break up spontaneously at the top of the atmosphere, new ozone is created immediately by the sun's ultraviolet light. Studies on how long this process takes indicate that ozone regenerates fast enough to preclude significant ultraviolet effects at the earth's surface. Put another way, when a ray of ultraviolet sunlight manages to slip past the initial clumping of ozone, because an O3 molecule happens not to be there, it runs smack into a regular old oxygen molecule and splits it apart, getting absorbed in the process and, by the way, generating replacement ozone.
This process is not an absolute. Some ultraviolet always reaches the Earth's surface. Since the thickness of the ozone varies continuously, the amount of ultraviolet at any spot on the Earth's surface also changes continuously, not to mention the effects of clouds, water vapor, smog, etc."
If you add up the pollution from all the CARS and AIRPLANES ( which happen to fly up there closer to the actual ozone ), do you think that is more or less than pollution from factories. What about all the 100 million smokers added to the cars and airplanes. 150 million rural households that burn all their trash, ect, ect. Add up all the non industrial pollution, and it will make the real industrial pollution seem like a drop in the bucket.
Well, if your applications are designed properly to begin with, they would use an include file for things like database calling functions. One change in one file, then copied to the other locations, and you still have to restart nothing.
By the way, what are these web apps that all use the same query anyway? 10 apps using the exact same query seems like something that would never happen?
When I design a view in MSSQL, I can copy and paste the query in my code and use it. That is exactly what I always do. MySQL supports joins correct, so it it just that you cannot save the view that makes so many get their panties in a bunch? Can't these people just write the query? If you need it stored bad enough, can't you just write a function to call your 'view' sql query?
I beleive that while the ozone may play a part in global warming, the earth's orbit is also losing area each year, also adding to the effect. Wouldn't that also cause the orbit to slow? More drag the closer it gets to our gravity monster?
Wouldn't 1 cm make a difference? I dunno, its just an idea.
Love is a burning thing,
It makes a firey ring,
Bound by wild desire,
I fell in a ring of fire,
I fell into a burning ring of fire,
I went down, down, down and the flames went higher,
I burned, burned, burned,
A ring of fire, a ring of fire,
The taste of love is sweet,
And hearts like ours meet,
I fell for you just like a child,
And oh, the fire went wild,
I fell into a burning ring of fire,
I went down, down, down and the flames went higher,
And burned, burned, burned,
A ring of fire, a ring of fire,
I fell into a burning ring of fire,
I went down, down, down and the flames went higher,
And burned, burned, burned,
A ring of fire,
A ring of fire,
Finally! Only another 12 months or so until my 120gb drive will be empty again!
I hope by then the price will have dropped by a substantial amount, and the data type drives are in that lower price range. I will most likley be waiting 18 months though.
''Socially, I suffered tremendously. I couldn't have bought a girlfriend in high school. But I survived by sensing I was on a different course from my peers,'' McLurkin said. ''I knew I had a future.''
30 years old, still in school, and won 30k for building a hobby type robot and then duplicating it 124 times. Ya, on a different course alright, the rest of his peers have been working in the real world for 26 years, and have made 40x his prize money in real income. Plus most are married and like to be social.
His mommy sure can be proud of the french fry walrus now.
Yes, a huge gain in the usage of linux, schools everywhere to switch in the next 5 years.
The sheer number of Linux Guru's to be spawned from this is scary. No longer will it be a skill for the tech savvy geek, but any high school script kiddie will be able to operate a linix machine, and may focus on linux attacks. I am not overly worried, but it seems the more that linux catches on, bugs and CERT advisories have been appearing at a faster rate.
Or is it that the new generations now see computers simply as another electronic device that has always been there, much like many of us see the tv, phone, fax machine, and radio? Way back when, these things were very advanced, and tv rapair shops, ect were good businesses. Now people throw out their TV when it breaks, no one repairs them, and no-one finds them overly interesting. Is the TV any less of an information tool? Are commercials less frustrating than spam?
Here is my comment, when I looked no-one had replied to the comment, and I thought it to be wrong.
The mame roms was just an EXAMPLE. An example of downloading a lot from http in a shell. Its not ment to be anything but that. From your post, its easy to assume that you did not know how to download http from a shell account.
No I am not in high school, don't make assumptions based on a comment at 1:30 am on a website. ( I know I did to you, but I can do that )
You really don't have a clue.
Never heard of WGET, LYNX, and LINKS?
I love http download over ftp any day.
Ever write a bash script to pull down 4,500 mame games over http? No?
Oh you must be talking about winblows, wait , then why wouldn't you have IE? Your just a dumbass I guess.
They must be using a group of fast burners. 1000 fans will not want to wait 5 minutes to get a cd considering thats 5000 minutes.
Other than that, seems like a good idea, that would be easy to do.
You know what I do when my gaming machine gets doggy as hell, and crashes a lot? I format the hard drive and re-install a fresh copy of windows 2000. Seems to fix the problem every time. Screw upgrading to XP, or windows 2004 in a year, I will stick with this more stable 3 year old service pack 3 OS. It runs well on my very outdated 1ghz machine.
I don't blame the OS as much as the ENDLESS DAMNED SPAM AND AUTOMATIC SPYWARE INSTALLS. Shit, there is always company x that wants to embed itself into the browser and log every page I go to. And this damned 'save' app that will not die.
Good lord. All of you bitching about loose code and not being efficient. What is 100kb on a 120gb drive?
How much does a 1000 word doc take up in word? 27kb. All of that 'bloat' is formating, version info, ect, ect. There is an initial amount and after that, it does not grow so much. Open a word doc in notepad or Vi to see what I mean. Don't get me wrong, I hate Microsoft as much as the next OSS developer, but don't make up information.
Every developer's code should be bloated for one reason. When Joe Blow leaves the company, they want bill, george, and rob to be able to pick up where he left off. Very good comments, and good spacing will make the difference. In the end, most are forced to do this by their managment anyway. Servers with 4 2.4 ghz processors and 4 gb ram really don't care if your daemon or webapp is overweight. Don't give me that crap about job security, they are smarter than that now.
That's my 2 cents, leave it the @#$% alone!
Um daily retard.
My usual day goes similar to this, asswhole:
6:50 am get up, shower, eat HEALTHY breakfast.
7:55 am get to work.
12:00 noon lunch
4:00 pm leave work
4:30pm get home

No stupid, I , like 90% of the players, DID NOT ATTEND.
You cannot base your info on 4 guys that sat at your card table.
Besides, if your not a geek in some way, get off slashdot, your not welcome here.
I know many adults, teens, and kids that come home and watch TV straight away after work, school or whatever. They eat, fold laundry, ect in front of the TV, at 6 hours per day on average.

A bunch of ricers laughing at an article on a forum making fun of ricers. The ultimate irony.
You need to grow up and learn to count.
There are other things wrong with this article as well.
"both for the programmer herself and for the organization that profits by her labors. "
Most programmers are MALE.
Way to make a joke out of everything kids.

Ok, I am done.
Good lord that is craptastic!
...you are told you can not advertise your product as submited because everyone knows it does not function as promised.

How do they measure distance from the sun anyway.
Brings a song to my heart...

Good lord what a horrible mistake in simple math! I bow out on this horrible note. It should of been 7-8 years.
You can tell I never put french fries up my nose when I was little huh.
Finally! Only another 12 months or so until my 120gb drive will be empty again!
.sig: Are YOU in the market for a new vehicle?

Okay, $rant='complete';
What use is a gallery of photos with names like C11054 and no damned descriptions of what we are viewing?
I hope this thing comes down close to my backyard, or maybe I could shoot it down. Thats some free hardware!
Oh wait, gps, so he would know where it was when it disappeared...
Seriously though, sounds like a pretty expensive wad of cash to just throw into the wind.
