I'm so bloody sick of all these deceptive practices. Just like gasoline, $1.49 and 9/10. Like you can buy gas in 9/10's of a cent at a time. It's a RIP OFF scheme. You lose 1/10 of a cent each gallon you buy. They GAIN 1/10 of a cent each gallon you buy. Over the long haul they haul tons of $$$$ to the bank..
Don't talk bollox man. If you buy 10 gallons it costs $14.99. You've lost nothing.
I believe the problem stems from the parents buying the game to play for themselves. Whilst playing GTA on the PS2 they do not care what is happening to Billy and Jonny in the next room.
I have a daughter now but in the past I have gone without food knowing that one more level must be completed. Games are addictive like that.
When I was a Patternmaker for BMW Rover... (I should stop starting post like this)...I, along with colleagues, would produce b-grade models for all the 450-600 panels that go into making a complete car. These models were made from mahogany and sometimes had steel inserts for added strength. They had a tolerance of 2mm (+/- 1mm in both directions).
The panel beaters would take the b-grade model and shape sheet steel to match the profile. They do not beat the steel over the model as is the popular opinion.
6 panels are needed for a complete crash test. I never heard of more being needed for the US market.
I had browsing problems a few months ago on XP using IE6 (shhh... this is going somewhere). I couldn't post on certain websites, some pages weren't loading etc. Nothing I did seemed to fix the problems.
I downloading Knoppix and burnt it to disk within an hour. I quick bios change and 3 minutes later my PC had booted to a linux desktop. It found my MS mouse, cable modem, USB hub, GFX card - basically everthing. Both hard drives with all their partitions were there along with DVD-ROM and CDR - I was impressed.
The webpages still failed to load in Konqueror so I knew the problem didn't lie with me.
Within 10 minutes of using it I'd worked out how to make a screenshot, save it as PNG and post it on a forum which impressed me again.
I've still not made the switch but Knoppix is a great CD to have in anyone's CD collection.
Zeropaid.com has a Busted section as was prevously mentioned on Slashdot. They also tout some software called Fakeroo that puts wrongly-named child porn images on the Gnutella network.
I'm not sure if I agree with this and I certainly don't like the Zeropaid site but the RIAA's finding are meaningless when people are doing this.
The UK police are stupid. I've had much first hand dealing with them and this is my conclusion.
Not only is their sense of humour removed on the first day of police training school, but their manners and common sense are removed too. They are turned into power tools with one objective: Be difficult.
There was a burglary a few weeks ago in a house that backs onto my garden. Exactly one week later the police, in their helpful and efficient way, asked me if I'd seen anything. A week later! I ask you...
In the last 5 years of internet use I've been infected by 2 viruses. The first was one of the Chernobyl strains and I have no idea where that came from. The second came from a silly shockwave flash exe that I ran - I was new. These two happened within the first 6 months. I then bought NAV.
In the last 4.5 years I've not been infected*. Why? I'm educated now, not because NAV is doing its job.
I still run a NAV to this day but I have never renewed my licence. I use the auto-update feature. Yes; you could say that I'm stealing the definition updates.
NAV has done nothing for me in the last 4.5 years. Why should I be expected to pay the silly amounts of money they ask for annually?
It is not worth every penny.
*In fact, I was hit with MSBLAST 2 weeks ago. What did NAV do for me then? Nothing, apart from costing me an hour of my time. Thank god I didn't waste any money paying for a scanner that does nothing.
I've never played Phantasy Star Online, so this is slightly off topic.
I will not mention the name of my favourite game, nor will I mention the company who made it but there is talk of my game's server being shut down too. The game is 4 years old but is still for sale from the developers' website and a vast majority of retailers as a budget title. The last two years we have done without secure login IDs because of 'hackers'. We also have a very buggy beta patch that has been in beta for 12 months too.
The developers tell me that I've had my moneys worth from the game as I've played it a lot. They also tell me that they make no money from running a server (IRC server BTW) and that I should be grateful they've left it up this long. They have no intention of giving us the server code either.
When I bought the game there was no mention of "you only get 200 hours worth of online playtime". There was no mention that this was a limited service and that features would be removed in the future (secure login IDs, world rankings, etc).
I have so many questions that I've never received satisfactory answers to...
How long should a game last? Should it last as long as I'm still enjoying the game?
Should there be warnings on the box that say "Limited server time. The online server will not be up forever. We will never give the server code to 3rd parties."?
Is my £35 not enough to secure me and my playing friends an old box in the corner of a room with a reasonable internet connection? How much bandwidth does an IRC server use anyway?
...because I read the first line and saw that it was in fact the Great British, King of Tabloid, Morning Trap-4 Comic - The Sun.
The parent missed out that this is a Tits 'n Arse paper chocked full of celebrity gossip and this is the reason is sells so well.
It is a working class paper with working class opinions. One of their columnists is 'White Van Man' which is laughable and sums up the readership easily.
This is going to sound like a troll and so it should...
Just come off the phone to helpdesk; I have an email attachment that should be reported. They tell me "as the PIF file has made it through the firewall there shouldn't be any problems with it". Oooooookay phone monkey, log the call and go back to trying to sort the printing problem I gave you yesterday.
Seriously, these phone monkeys stay in the job 12 months. It is no more than a stepping stone for them. They know little to nothing about the normal power-user stuff. They are fresh from college looking for the money their careers advisor told them about 3 years ago.
"Cycle the power"
"The server is corrupted"
"I've logged your call"
"Are you sure the network cable is plugged in?"
"We have informed our network enterprise discovery analyst support migration team"
As a corporate user the helpdesk would be the last point of call. Anyone can log calls and even then it can be done wrong.
Actually I do, and I have done for the last 10 years - I would have had a gaol sentence if I didn't. That's over £1000 total if you want to put a price on it.
The last price hike was introduced because the BBC wanted a bigger Internet presence. I had no choice but to pay. Even if I choose not to use BBC TV or radio I still have to pay. Gaol is no option for me.
So, I already pay for my media, I have done for a long time. I don't intend paying for it again. We, the British public, are taking the media we have already paid for. As far as I'm concerned; the Broadband Stakeholder Group can sing for their micro-payments.
Off the top of my head, the industries in which robots have dominated more than any other are in chip fabs and automobile assembly lines...</blockquote>
<P>Having worked on an automobile assembly line for 16 weeks (8 years in the factory total) I can tell you that this is a misconception. It is still cheaper to use physical labour most of the time. Robots are only used for dangerous jobs.
<P>The robots we did have were hard to program and were often were not running. There was always a spare set of jigs so that some real workers could work.
You're an idiot who's probably never heard a Frenchman *spit* speak.
"Air-in"
She is hot and goes down for the small price of a spoon full of sugar.
The name whispers still freak me out to this day.
"Lee... Leeeeeeeee.... Leeeeeeeeee... Death..."
Made me chuckle. =)
Since when has ASP been a language anyway?
Who says the code behind an ASP page has to be VBS? Or even JavaScript for that matter?
ASP is lovely. I learned the majority of it in an afternoon. The day after I learned VBS.
Can team-based online sports gaming take off in a similar way to pro FPS gaming?
<P>No. Now mod me up as funny.
<P>Friday is Burn Karma Day.

I sent 1800 spam emails to my MP, Michael Wills. I told him this was a month's worth after deleting the disgusting ones.
I wonder if it helped...
What is your point?
Is your point that this XML file is too big?
Not enough information in it?
Hard to parse?
Hey if you are just after the text then only look for <w:t> tags. I'm guessing that means Word Text.
I see no problems here.
I believe the problem stems from the parents buying the game to play for themselves. Whilst playing GTA on the PS2 they do not care what is happening to Billy and Jonny in the next room.

It took you a few minutes to type that? Back to cleaning toilets for you I think.
That wise man knew nothing about horses and neither does Google.
I like the horses; have done for some time but have never heard of a horse being sold at the clackers. The Knacker's yard maybe...
Where or what is the clackers?
Actually I do, and I have done for the last 10 years - I would have had a gaol sentence if I didn't. That's over £1000 total if you want to put a price on it.

This is already happening on a grander scale.
People are setting up private forums for friends and sharing CDs through the snail mail. I see this becoming more and more popular at time goes on.
If only I had Mod points...
C'mon Mods; lighten up a little. This is funny.
