I think you're looking at it as an automatic bump in age rather than being a factor in the average lifespan. The GP was spot on with listing factors that have increased the average person's lifespan (I don't care how you want to phrase it)
If it works out and they figure out how to up the average lifespan it will be just another factor in the average lifespan equation. So maybe you're saying the same thing maybe you're not... either way the Gramp's wasn't wrong.
I can see it now cross maden with the WWE series and you've got a multi million dollar hit. Now if I can only work in NASCAR and I can target every rednecked american... I mean red blooded american.
All you did was link to current day raid cards. I don't see anything about using these nice new really small drives in a high density raid solution. So next time you want to be smart ass try and stay on target.
After reading the web site you sent out about the PRT I realized the prototype is in the back of parking lot 3 at raytheon's site in marlboro MA (where I worked for 3+ years) and I can tell you point blank the project died years ago.
They can't even fire it up because the mice have chewed through most of the wiring. Rumor has it the last time they fired it up (5+ years ago) the PRT actually got stuck on the track and the people where left there for 2 hours while they tried to fix it.
On a side note I actually used to park my car under it:)
Really? I've been using it for 6 months now and I haven't run into many problems. The only driver issue I've run into was the ATI driver would BSOD on certain flash based web sites (redsox.com) but that was fixed a couple months ago.
See thats the beauty of a zombie attack the more bandwidth per zombie the more damage. Instant multiplier! And even if you programmed it to use only part of the line that part gets bigger with increased bandwidth.
There are ways to mitigate this with intelligent traffic monitoring but its an arms race.
What if you where to use one of those RSA key card. You know the one where the number is only valid for 90 seconds. That matched with a password or pin it Authenticates you at that POS and you since its only valid for 90 Seconds they can't keep track of your card number.
And of any internet company out there that can not only compete but beat eBay on capital & brand name its google. Lets be honest here they don't need to make the wheel much better. Just easier and cheaper (two things google is very good at) and they have 25% of eBay's business in 6 months.
"Yes, i do work in a reasonably big company, and i've developed over 10 medium-scale and enterprise solutions. Believe you me, no company has money to throw away. Every decision has to be justified across several parameters, namely ROI, stability, performance, maintainability, and so on."
You've never worked for a government contractor have you? I spent a couple years working for one of the largest US defense contracting companies and trust me when I say government contracts are literally black holes that your tax dollars are shoveled into:)
Actually blitzmail is a home rolled email package dartmouth wrote. They actually deployed it to a couple schools,ISPs,and hitchock medical center (dartmouth's teaching hospital)
The client and servers I believe still exist but they switched over to IMAP a while ago (I believe I know they have pop support as well).
And instead of saying "email me" it was "blitz me".
I don't believe its a rhetorical question but rather a very poignant question. Why after reading a very muddled paragraph would the editor not try and clarify the statement? Can you honestly say you think that was a very clear well writen description of the article?
I'm sorry but this sentence says to me the product is due friday.
"Looks like Adobe accidentally let slip the details of the next PhotoShop version due on Friday."
Its a poorly worded description point blank. So while you're an ass munch you still didn't answer his question. Why didn't the editors do something to calirfy the situation?

Lots of places have very nice homes for under 300K you just have to move out of LA/NY/BOS/....
Check out upstate New England and NY state.

How about we bring higher density raid systems to the desktop first ;-)

All depends on what you're working on. I worked for Raytheon and never had to sign an NDA.

What problems did you run into?
Along the same lines another great book Unix Network Programming Volume 2
Small nitpick .... it's eh not hey.
"some Giant v Giant v Big Ass Gorilla action" I saw this on a web site one time ..... trust me you don't want to see it.
Hell I'm still waiting for good service in my apartment in boulder

You are freakin' out .... man
Just remember "the snauzberries taste like snauzberries"
Only if you count the ~10 minutes your flying in US airspace while leaving Logan

Why is this a troll?
It won't apear in Firefox but it will more than likely end up in Konqueror (safari is built on top of khtml)
They also have a good size air traffic control business. They are the people that developed STARS the new terminal software for all us airports.

There are also some of us slashdotters that actually like baseball and can balance their nerdy tendancies and normal everyday activities ...
