    He doesn't, the two Microsoft drones who come with Windows 3k do. Sure the license cost will have to include the salaries of a couple of big guys watching your every move, but you get so much more back in terms of consumer rights.

    I didn't like Windows on my desktop, could that mean that Windows isn't perfectly suited either.

    My preference at the time was to just get rid of the trademark, to get it declared invalid because of prior use in the industry. We had enough paperwork to show that Linux had, in fact, a history of prior use. The trouble was, our lawyer convinced us that it would be a wasted efforted, that we should not even try to get Linux declared a public domain instead of a trademark. The only way for it to really be in the public domain, he explained, was for it to become generic. And Linux at the time wasn't that generic. The trademark office probably wouldn't even concider it to be generic today. We could lose the battle, he said. Or if we invalidated the old trademark, somebody could possibly come along and trademark it anew.

    The solution he suggested was to transfer the trademark to somebody else. My vote went to Linux International, but there was a lot of opposition to that. Linux International was young and unproven. People were worried about Linux International being taken over by commercial interests.(...)

    Reviewers don't even buy the cd, they usually get them from the record companies. The problem is rouge reviewers putting the music on the internet before the cd is released! This way, the reviewers can listen to the music and write their reviews as they otherwise would, but there's less of a chance that they'll put it on kaaza or whatever before the CD is available to the public.

    A linux box can be rooted if you have physical access. A child can climb the fences and fall into a crocodile pit. A car can be started without keys.

    That doesn't mean that security patches, crocodile fences or car keys are useless.

    If they prevent anyone who doesn't actively try to see the information, they stop 98% of possible intrusions.

    If you're worried about the information on the screen, you lock the door and turn the monitor away from any windows. If you're really worried, you put your head and the monitor under a blanket. If you're really, really worried, you memorize disassembler listings and emulate the programs in your head.

    If you're sitting at a counter at a crowded airport or similar, you get one of these polarized monitors.

    Accidents do happen more often. But most of them aren't fatal, or even noticed, by passengers. Sometimes it's so insignificant not even the pilots notice, only showing up in on-ground testing.

    I'm not a pilot myself, but a friend of mine says they experience a slight device failure about half of all flights that are longer than two-three hours.

    The reason why it's not really important is, of course, redundancy. Most systems have analog and digital versions, some with a manual backup (pencil&paper style). Those that don't are concidered less than vital, like audio broadcasting or the soda fridges.

    Again though, IANAP.

    I would just like to point out that Think is a norwegian car, and Norway has large resources of clean hydropower.

    But I guess Norway just wasn't meant to produce cars.. The last attempt at this was Troll, which produced 5 cars (yes, five) before going out of business.
