Denying ip traffic to ports above 1024 will kill a lot of "scanners", along with some other basic ACL rules, you could have your router locked down tighter than a mouse's ear. Fake Ip adrresses/IP masquerading should reduce their risks even further. Then turning off incoming icmp will definately make your router look dead to the world but still get web access through. A firewall couldn't hurt either. Some of the things we have done to limit our threats.
Pricewatch.com they now have a system in place to keep them from scalping on the shipping like they used to. Dual 1ghz p3 1.5 gig ram ti500 and 2 7200 rpm 20's $550
You have to love every time someone finds out that something is free and people enjoy it so "they" decide, "lets tax the hell out of it." (ie Tobacco Products, Liquor, Imports.) I agree with most people that the only source of webcast will be the big boys that have other means of financial backing, or underground sources who don't really care.
You get the rope, I'll provide the tree. Remember in the South Park Movie when they brought in Bill Gates? "But Windows 98 is faster it has..."(machine guns rattling). : )
Guess people will actually have to search the net for an answer to their problem instead of crying to Peter, the lethargic, put you on hold while he talks to someone who has a clue, minimum wage, outsourced, retard of a CSR.
Sorry, was on the phone with a "tech d00d earlier, and had to vent"
We tried to use Star Office V5.2 When we tried to become "compliant", but with some of our older legacy machines, we found it troubling to run Lotus Notes R5 and Star Office at the same time. I have started them on 602 office suite and haven't looked back. It is a compatible tool free with a reg code, and runs much faster. The fact that each part of the program, ie spreadsheet, doc, and ppointish are all separate exe's. This saves tons of memory on these old 200's with 32-64 megs of ram. Make it not use 128 megs of ram and it will get better accepted I say. My.02 anyway.
We have considered a data warehouse so that we could just mount whatever folder the client requests, and then burn it. But if you have ever tried to explain that to a client relations manager, you would most certainly fail. I guess if they need to up and ditch us, they can just have the next company use the cd's we burned for them. We use snap server's to store a lot of voice recordings and such for retrieval purposes.
It seems as if the book would appeal to some, but I prefer the feeble mindedness of MAD magazine and whatever else. Like another poster said, I prefer to enjoy my reading, not be plauged by it.
This will be a wonderful tool for our business. We store a lot of items on cd media, and our vault is filling up at an incredible rate. We use several medium's to back up our data, but some clients require their data be kept on cd's to avoid having to buy a 4000 dollar dlt drive if they need some of the data. We could save a lot of room if we used this instead. I am all for it, since the 3" discs didn't quite work out the way Sony wanted. Hoorah!
Their was this game call Narc, that I loved that was an educate about drugs type of game, and you got to see some gib action. It rocked in it's day. I can't wait for the matrix mod however. : )
Why would someone want a crappy camera in a cell phone anyway. Like the previous posters said, a view of my earwax. I read something on a tooth phone yesterday. Great, a way to introduce the radiation directly to your brain stem. When will we ever learn.
Tivo is a wonderful tool for optimizing the time you spend watching TV. I miss a lot of shows that I would like to watch, and I am happy to see a product out their to help the non banker hours peeps get the most out of their 90 dollar a month cable bill. Now, if only we could come up with a Linux tool to do record TV with tv in, and have a similiar recording engine comparable to Tivo. I would be willing to donate something to that project, cuz monthly fees suck. My.02
I'd say to better familiarize the world with linux, do something like Mandrake. Lin4Win. It basically makes it easy to "dual os" your system without making partitions. One could learn linux a bit when they had time, and still have the functionality of windows when they needed it. Slackware just doesn't appeal to me, but one mans trash is another's treasure. Mandrake is easy to use, and install. If you want the Linux OS to expand, would you want someone getting frustrated trying to learn vi, or have them spending time enjoying the functionality of their OS. Isn't that what computers are for? Just my.02
If Nerds did get the girl, would we still be Nerds?
I feel ya brother, ever seen the scifi movie "Cherry"? That is what I am going to do. Buy a sophisticated robot that will rub my shoulders and fix me drinks without question.
IMHO, most peeps will buy the pc for the price cut and borrow Fred's copy of M$ Windoze (Insert Flavor Here). I don't see my Father using and Flavor of Linux in the foreseeable future. I mean a prebuilt system loses most of it's geek appeal right off the bat. I am more for building it myself from my components. What about You?
I would like to see some software that actually takes advantage of SMP. I primarily use and smp system, and It really sucks to know only one is processing threads with a large majority of software. Do ya feel me?
Now all they need is some decent story writers. Hark!! Who Flames there??
j/k I like most disney movies, but WTF is up with the new silent movie about a horse?
I would like an off the record type interview with Linux Hackers. The whole thing looks like a team of High ballers sat and collaborated on each answer. I want the truth!! You can't handle the truth.

That usually means, "Their is no way in hell you can afford this." :)

Great, I'm as happy as a puppy with 2 peters.

That is when you use Lucky's magic paper bag of love.

Screw that, I'll just the terraserver. I can see my house from it. : )
I know it's what I asked for, but it's not what I want.

I agree with you to an extent, but "what if" their was a free tool. You wouldn't even try it? It sounds kind of obtuse.
