    That's often covered by statutes regarding theft of service, computer crimes, or various sorts of tort, and there have been a number of cases wherein spamming was recognized by judges and juries as such. However, in many jurisdictions there's no statute to point to that says "spamming is a crime".

    That would be a start but we need to go further, we need to fine these dirt bags good and proper, and deal especially hard with repeat offenders, something like a third time and we take everything you've got assets, money, the lot. with further offences ledding to public shaming, Gaol etc.

    We're reaching the end of the road for antibiotics. It won't be sudden, but it will happen.

    We don't actually know that, we may yet find heeps more due to some new break through, BUT we'd be FOOLS to BANK on that! Still I'm sure we will find other ways, perhaps using natural enemies of the bugs etc, like we've done with controling pest species, in the macro world, it'll be challenging but we know heeps more about it all than we did before penicillin.

    Yup it's all about balance but, too little hygiene and you get real sick, but go the modern Paranoia route and big problems. But allergies can be far more complex, especially if their real bad like is the case with me.

    Too true, some doctors have confided in me that they fear to lose patients if they don't provide antibiotics, as for me I'm happy enough not to take them when I don't have to. But my life would be miserable without them, as a very allergic person (Allergic rhinitis), I get way to many infections especially in the nose/sinuses/ears/throat/chest, it's a difficult balancing act for doctors.

    Yes we have similar laws here in oz (Australia), the crime is call stuff like racial villification, which means the it's illegal to spread hatred etc, but if you say something true about someone thats different, or you can say I don't like X, I think thats how it goes, so far it seams to work. (NB: IANAL)

    I'd call this the "clippy" effect some person who isn't a coder comes up with a really dumb idear, lets give them a digital assistant to help them, how about a talking paper clip?.

    M$ may be infected with this kind of stupidity, but hopefully OSS guys will be more thoughtful, M$office >= 95 pain until you'd turned of enough of their "helpful" features.

    Not one of his sugestions looked at all desireable to me, someone apply the clue-stick to him!

    I have yet to see even one believable argument from this crowd, from experience the poorer the evidence, the more the conspiracy theorist is convinced.

    What I'd like to see is some evidence that even one conspiracy theorist has a brain. I have actually heard one of them say, of one claim that it was true, but he couldn't get any evidence of it because the conspiracy was too good, and the conspiracy theorist's , far from seeing through him, were even more convinced.

    So my answer is yes we did go to the moon, if there was even the slightest doubt, all the conspiracy theorist's, would drop this conspiracy theory like a hot potato, (imagine how enbrassed they'd be to actually support a crediable conspiracy theory ).

    For a more "mainstream" approach Cornell has also developed Cybertower [cornell.edu] which is a free service that provides a very multimedia-based (Quicktime based...so get your Crossover plugin for Linux users) glimse into some of the course offerings.

    How do I get this crossover pluggin??

    I have to say that I think that the Cult of Macintosh is pretty much dead.

    Not so I'm afraid, I have a very^100 anoying friend who is a total Mac bigot, he's forever trying to bully me into moving to the Mac & OSX, always telling me that linux & linux jobs are dying that OSX is wiping us out, that I should get into, programming that crap for the OSX desktop.

    He just doesn't get it

    • i). I hate propriety software (Apple are nicer than Micro$oft, but their still way to propriety for me).
    • ii). I love Linux and I'm staying with it.
    • iii). I don't care about working in the Industry in the future, I want to go back to the research world (esp Maths), and get PHD etc.
    • iv). FUD doesn't work when your target knows too much, OSX has done alright, but not really Linuxes expence, sure we've lost some but we've gain even more, a bit of churning is normal.

    Anyway my friend and his FUD (lies) are proof that the biggot's are still out there, but then: most Os's have a few biggots/zealots at the periphery, their a pain, but treat them with the contempt they deserve.

    what you need are products to really hurt and maim the barstools, high pitched tones that send them deaf.

    Then there are the spammers, if only we could arrange it that for every spam we get, the sender and all who helped him, automatically get a good hard kick, in the balls, can't you just here the crunch the screams, aaahhhh.

    But since we can't do that, we just get some new laws passed, if the *AA can legally (???) hack computers, then slashdoters should be given legal powers to, apply a baseball bat (or similar instrument of instruction), to any spammer, so they spam us we report it here, so at the end of the week we see ah yes Fred Bloggs spammed 2,345 slashdoters with a total of over 3million emails this week, so the slashdotters in Fred's local get together and apply over 3million strokes of gentle correction (as hard and painful as possible), to Fred's body, and should Fred by some horrible accident survive, I'll bet he wont do it again, (esp if we did a good job on his hands [making typing a more deeply felt experience])

    (alright mummy I'm coming I'll take my medicine like a good boy) :-)

    The important thing to realize is that you're measuring the spectrum integrated over the entire surface of the star WEIGHTED BY THE FLUX (read: brightness) AT THAT PART OF THE SURFACE.

    That sounds like fun how can I get hold of some examples of integrals like this (I badly need some maths to play with).
