Not really. Again, this deals with the all-evil DRM. The active-x control required to deliver the music relies on IE. Netscape/Moz/Fireb does not support the active-x control. Even the player uses an IE window to acquire the license.

    Blame DRM and active-x.

  5. PayLoadz.com on Evaluating a System for Selling and Delivering MP3s? · · Score: 1

We've had the greatest success in enabling artists to sell music online.

  6. Supply v Demand fails in open source on Funding Open Source? · · Score: 1

If it is a successful open source project, then it will have high visibility and should consequently have ample means of distribution from many sites. That seems to be the very definition of success in open source.

You can still be profitable if you have some value added service provided with the product. You can't really have any benefits within the product itself as it is open source, but you may be able to offer support for your item.

Red Hat capitalized on something similar, as early versions of linux were difficult for newcomers to find, install, and use. RH's packaging, support, and distribution are what made it a success.

So basically, since the supply is limitless and readily available, there is little room to make money off the product itself.

    Or you could:
    1. Create killer open source app
    2. Get tons of developer to make it great
    3. Close source
    4. Piss a lot of people off

The article posted just before this one does the same.

We have one of the most successful systems that have debuted singles higher than any other digital download system (payloadz.com).

We charge the record company 10% msrp on each txn, they charge $1.49, paypal makes out big time with $.30 + 2% and the rest goes to the label and artist. Since the publishing units do not get involved, the yield is much higher for the artist.

It debuted higher than any digital single on billboard. It was 3rd behind Kid Rock and someone else's in store sales. The artist's camp could not have been happier with the process and results. Though we do have it priced at $1.49, in unprotected mp3 format!

We also sell for several other artists mentioned in the article:

I exhibited all of the symptoms of a child with adhd while growing up, and even got tested during college by a psychiatrist. The diagnosis, I had add and adhd and received a prescription for 10 MB quick and slow release Ritalin.

After taking the first few pills, I would say that is one of the worst drugs ever. I am abhored by parents giving small children even small dosages of this drug. I makes you speedy and you crash hard, increasing the need for the drug.

The tests they give you for this drug are ridiculous. Like "do you doodle during class?" and "Do you speed often while driving?". I was a freshman in college, of course I did!

I simply became more organized and was able to perform well in an Ivy league school. Of course, taking up coffee didn't hurt.

I can see in adults you may see a benefit, but giving them to children is insane. Plain and simple. I doubt anyone will argue with the dramatic effects of this drug.
