" the fact that many people (in the U.S. at least) are still scared of nuclear plants, and apparently even many slashdot readers think that tiny black holes function like ultra-powerful vacuum cleaners, could mean a little trouble getting the local black-hole power plant approved."
Yeah, I'm sure the thought of a black-hole powered plant is much more comforting.
If an antimatter atom came into contact with its matter cousin it would instantly obliterate both of them. Given that it is H and O we're talking about, your anti-water would last for all of a nano-second. If that.
The current classification system was invented by Carolus Linnaeus in 1735. When he came up with it, he only had TWO kingdoms, plants and animals. Since then, there have been the addition of 4 new kindoms. (Sorry no date on the last)
Well, it may not be completely stinky, but it is close.
Our current system for categorizing the inhabitants of this is long outdated and is based largely on phsycal characteristics of the components on the creature, rather than the stuff it is actually made up of.
We find we've had to tweak this existing system to make new species fit. We've even had to add new kindoms! Many species bridge, these categories making them all the more harder to classify.
A better, more accurate, system needs to be devised based on current technologies that classify based on genetic code. The point of a classification system would be to allow us to draw similarities in creatures while studying them based on available data for ones in the same category. A genetic model would be very beneficial for this very reason.
Neo's powers only work within the Matrix right? And they have had the Matrix crash before right? (They mention it in the first when Smith was interrogating Morpheus- and at the end when the green code stops) So why not just debug whatever it is that gives Neo his power in the Matrix and recompile? Or just do away with the whole program. They didn't always have a programming running, they could just force people at this point...kind of like a UPS system, not as good, but works!
Et voila, they win, no?

Agreed! You spend all that time getting the bugs worked out, then college just goes in and formats the drive. I've seen state schools go as par as removing the partitions and corrupting the boot sector.
Yeah, those sub $1,000 products magically jump to well over $1,500 by clicking update price without change any of the configuration. Much like dell's site.
Just curious, I know we can circumvent most ads with Software for now, but I wonder if they will be able to tie this type of advertising to hardware- where it can't be avoided.
I use vonage business VoIP services. I have calls drop and poor sound quality as is, now if I brought the unpredictability of Wi-Fi connections into play, it would only get worse.
VoIP is still not a complete solution, at least not for reliable service just yet, IMHO. Unless you go with a dedicated network. Services like vonage are affordable, but they use the net and are vulnerable to the usual traffic issues, etc...
By going after IBM without precedent, they can settle out of court and then go after the smaller game to gain a court's decision with the money the blackmailed IBM for.
At just $1,400 this thing is a steal. Now I can launch all of those t-shirts I've wanted to hurl...wait a second..WTF do I need this for again.
I'll just stick to my good old spudlauncher (http://www.idahospudfire.com/main.htm)

many states have children focused sites that are actually pretty good. They satisfy all of your requirements without any commercial (except tourism) barrages.
Try this one (I actually helped build it:-): http://www.state.nj.us/hangout_nj/

It's funny, I was at Princeton as a coach during my grad studies and I was amazed at the network in place on campus. Not only was it blazingly fast, but everyone connected to the network had shared drives.
Some of the shares were at C:\ level and gave full rights. Others had Gigs upon Gigs of pirated software and movies. It was somewhat of a competition between users and they became popular for having a good loot of files. Not particularly intelligent IMHO.
That's why not, isn't this how the moon got blown up and we had to live underground for millions of years until we evolved into two seperate species- one above ground and one below!?

Since getting into MAME recently, I have played over 1,000 classic arcade games. They are almost always based on an existing game format.
Galaga is based from Space Invaders, and games like 1942 are based on Galaga, just that the terrain moves vertically.
Then games like Shinobi, are just like Double Dragon, Kung Fu Master, and many others where you navigate horizontally.
It goes further in gun based games like Operation Wolf, Duck Hunt, and Terminator. Also, with the many driving games, on to STreet Fighter game.
So, all in all, there have only been game format changes. The differences between games have been marginal and usually just in appearance/style.
Who cares how anit-water behaves with gravity?

I've always wondered this, so I'll ask here.

Try and get that thing up and running again!

Any chance?

Flying an RC helicopter is like flying an RC plane while balancing on the head of a pin (or some analogy like that).
Hell, flying an RC plane is hard enough, don't forget dangerous!
Are you evil?
Finally, I have a reason to dust off my dual processor celeron board (no, that is not an oxymoron).
That thing ran circles around my 2 GHZ P4M with just dual 650 celerons!
Woot!
