    They are no slower than my home linux system. I have installed KDE 3.2.2 on my university's servers and it works wonderful. The Solaris servers are slow however and should not really be used as anything but X-servers. In my setup KDE launches on a random linux-box and sends the graphics to solaris boxes which then renders it on the 300 sunrays.

    And you sound like a troll.
    It has nothing to do with the maturity of the technology, but Microsofts lack of will (reason) to cooperate. It is annoying you can't write to NTFS from Linux, because it has to be a secret, and it is very annoying that Windows automatically removes linux-booters every time it is reinstalled (and tries to fool the user to think that linux partitions are free space (not even corrupted, but free!)).

    Or use 'vira'. Atleast that would be correct if you considered virus a third declention noun (it has no original declention). In danish we usually use vira, because the danish plural viruser, just sounds silly.

    A global and profitable one.

    The US has a sort of standard now, that is newer and thus inherently superiour, but it is not global, and the telecoms and mobile technology providers are still far behind their European competitors, even if they now have a new slight advantage.

    Neither the part about barbies feet or boobs are correct. She has very small feet and would likely have problems finding shoes (so much more time spend shoe shopping), but her breast are only slightly over average, you must have very small breast to not see that ;). Even women with breasts 5-10 times larger do not have problems with balance, although they often develop backpains in their 40's.

    And yes the stereotyping is bad. I pretty much live up to every geek stereotype, but even I can find a girls. I used to think I couldn't (reflecting social trends?), but once I actually _tried_ it became a lot easier.

    What's with the question sign?

    You hear people complaining: What about sitting down watching Fox News (and tape it), then suppliment your news coverage with other sources. Then go back to your tape of Fox News and see how biased they are.

    The people complaining about Fox News are the kind of people that reads newspapers, follows the news on multiple channels and have a genrally good political overview.

    Not that Fox News are bad, but they are entertainment, and like Moores movies; represententing an unbiased story is just not very entertaining.

    Presumably this is because time has elapsed since then and, given the difficulty of proving a negative, any WMD found could be (and would be, by some) dismissed as having been brought in by insurgents after the fact.

    No, it is because the nerve gas was old, and was abandoned after the previous Gulf war.
    Blix comment was from before the age of the shell had been determined.

    Why are you assuming critics of US are lieing and making stuff up to make Bush look bad?
    He can perfectly well do that on his own!

    Actually cola-nuts contains caffeine. In Denmark where I live, it is not allowed to add extra caffeine to _any_ products. Yet Coca-cola has caffeine, and so does San-Sao (based on another caffeine fruit).

    It seems the attacks rely on being able to guess the right window, but say the connection is currently actively transmitting and receiving, then part of the window will always be full, and thus while the attack might hit the window, it will not work as expected since the receiver already have a packet at that sport.

    It mostly seem to be a problem for silly application protocols that expects to keep idle TCP-connections up all the time.

    No TV, was just one of those invention that was ripe, and therefor "invented" several different places and with several different people holding different patents different places.

    Philo Farnsworth have come to fame because he was among the first, but without a patent, therefore "the little beaten inventor".

    Because large parts of a database is more like a shell or a compiler and doesnt belong in a kernel. Ofcourse if you argue bash and gcc is part of the _GNU_/Linux OS, then a database can be too. I just wouldnt want to be the one to upgrade it ;)

    AMD can have 64bit dual cores out be the end of year.

    The whole hyperbus design is meant for this thing.

    With Tejas out of the picture, it is hard to predict when Intel will have 64bit. Remember this was the core that was going to introduce it for Intel!

    Yes, Nokia is the Microsoft of mobile phones. They are everywhere, they are ugly, expensive and crash a lot.

    All though, by all acounts the 68x0 series I had the "pleasure" of making acquitance with, was the worst piece of shit they ever produced (1 out of 3 phones was returned for repair).

    Athlon64 is not nearly as complex or hot as Pentium4 and especially Prescott is. It is pretty much the same generation of technology as Pentium M(pro/II/III) only a few steps ahead.

    It really depends on what kind of CS you talk about.

    In Denmark we have discipline called datalogy (the science of data/computation). We usually translates this to computer science in english, but in Denmark datalogy is a university level theoretical science. We no mere learn to program than math students learn to calculate. The biggest outlet is software designers and tech-managers.

    LAME and Xvid are also international projects. They can't really stall just because the end-product cost money to use in the US. The licenses are based on software patents, and even though the EU now also have software patents, they are much more restricted here.

    Not only is it not the US, but it is as far as you can get from the frivolous US legal system in a civilized western country. And besides in what way would an insurance company by involved in a case of lost kids? (remember Denmark is safe country).

    No, I think that it is parents wanting to find their kids who are driving this.

    There is huge difference between pen&paper roleplay and ruleless roleplaying. I have played both, and the first is more of an openended strategic game where the GM has to keep tacle odd outcomes, the other is a fun party game where the GM can twist the game which ever way he chooses.

    For short scenerious nothing beats ruleless roleplaying, but I just can't accept it for a larger campaign as there is no freedom, no weapons, the players can use to move the story in their direction.

    In my experience the standard contract is real enough, but it is more of a template: You can change specifics you disagree on, but it might depend on how important your employment is for the company (how unique your skills are).

    You are right, you should never say they are lieing and tecnically they might not. It would be better to tell yourself they are lieing and keep arguing you case, until it seem irrevocably lost.
