Umm.. Palm PDAs adhere to the KISS principle. They don't jam in 32MB of RAM, 200+MHz processors, etc.. to make up for a bloated OS like Pocket PC PDAs. So there just isn't the power in a elegantly engineered 16MHz Palm to do this..
Well your loyalty to your friends and your company is admirable. However, you probably have a family to think of as well and they should be at the top of your list when making these decisions. You should draw a mental line in the sand. When the company crosses that. Give your two weeks.. you may wanna give your friends a little advanced notice, but be careful with this. No need to follow the Titanic down and start drawing unemployment because you missed good oportunities. Thats my two cents.
I think it is total crap that a credit agency can write anything they want to your record without full disclosure to you. I would really like to see some lawyers attack this and make credit agencies more responsible. There should also be easy to reach phone numbers for each and every entry so that the matter can be resolved quickly and efficiently. Like people have pointed out we don't have months to drag through all of the paper work to get these matters resolved. I think all credit databases should be disclosed for free to the person in question and that notification should be sent in the mail for every addition. My two cents:)
Well I post to usenet all the time and I use my real e-mail address. I get maybe five spams a day or so. However, I have also signed up to a free spam filtering service at Brightmail. I recommend everyone else do the same. Their filters don't catch everything, but its free and it helps.
Hell, I would *love* to have a tablet PC or webpad to cruise the web with. That way I could go into the living room and casually cruise the web during commercials on TV or something. Of course it has to be done right with wireless ethernet, a good browser, etc..
All I can say is treat the company how they treat you and your co-workers. In my opinion, the right way to fire someone is in a personal manner. The manager should call in the worker to be terminated for a one-on-one meeting for notice of termination. Although its tough for the manager to do, the employees is still treated as a human being. To fire someone via e-mail, voicemail, fax, etc.. is callous, cold, and dehumanizing. It treats workers as a simple commodity like milk or bread.
Now, I should point out I am a very loyal worker. However, if I saw one of my co-workers get the ax in a cold manner which they did not deserve I would immediately start looking for another job. I want a job where my company respects me and I respect my company, and you can bet your ass I wouldn't give them my two weeks. Instead, I would leave at a pivotal time in a project and then tell them my reasons for leaving at that time. So companies everywhere.. always remember the golden rule. Your employees are your most prized asset.
I use Live365.com to stream my music. You can store 365MB of MP3s. The max bitrate is 56k if you store it on their servers though. However, its free, easy to use, and supported by ASCAP. I don't have my entire CD collection, but some recordings of my favorites.
Anyway, obviously mp3.com is changing their business model. If you think of the $45/year charge its kinda for bandwidth utilization, but with random CD insertions well.. thats BS and defeats the whole purpose. Anyway, Live365 rocks.
HELL YEAH.. I'm tired of these canned shit stories (AMD, Intel, Microsoft, blah, blah.. ) all talk but nothing new.. I think we need to do some slash bashing.. where are the good *ORIGINAL* stories from the days of yore? Don't get me wrong I like to keep informed, but all we get anymore is regurgitated crap!!!!!!!
Throught the various patent lawsuits Rambus is also collecting royalties on SDRAM and DDR-SDRAM form certain manufacturers.. so far they are collecting royalties on over 50% of RAM that isn't Rambus. Now by expanding into chipsets Rambus has even more scope for gathering revenues. Not that I think this is right or anything. I personally hope the whole damn company implodes.. that would be good got my stock I'm shorting on them:)
Cuz the United States rocks the house, and is the best country in the entire world (USA! USA!.. hehe). But I think the point is that how is this enforceable? If Yahoo does not have any operations in France how do they force Yahoo to do something?
Just out of curiosity.. what is IPC? Can you explain this a little more. I would look it up myself, but I haven't the faintest clue about what you are talking about. Thx.
Why is it that I keep seeing this same story re-hashed over, and over, and over again.. this has to be at least the third time the *same* story has been addressed here. By the way you guys hear anything about the playstation 2;)
I would leave Napster on all day long if eat didn't eat up every ounce of my upload bandwidth (same for Gnutella but it is a much worse bandwidth hog). This is especially bad because I share the cable modem with my college roommates. Contrary to what people may think upload bandwidth is somewhat useful, and my roommates do come a knockin' if things slow down. I know what some of you are thinking, but some websites *do* slow down when your upload is saturated. If I could do bandwidth throttling Napster would be on damn near all the time for me (same goes for Gnutella).
There is a sucker born every minute.. and eBay is out to show us that.. hehe.. oh well I guess some people have more money than patience... lets hear it for supply and demand..
Alright, if Linux makes everyones job easier then I believe it is the right tool for the trade. If IT doesn't want it on their network because they aren't "in the know" then they need to be fired for not knowing their job. Pretty damn simple. If you're business is computers, how to deploy software, etc.. and you have no clue about other OSes besides Windows then you as an IT professional are ill equiped to benifit your company and you need to be fired. This goes for other OSes as well including BSD and MacOS.
The only reason the i820 boards didn't work with SDRAM correctly is because the boards were built for RDRAM. Then at the last minute Intel said "oh sheet we better add SDRAM support cuz AMD is gonna kick our arse". This is how the MTH (Memory Translator Hub" came into the equation. The MTH which *translated* the SDRAM signals to the motherboard built for RDRAM was flawed, not the SDRAM technology. If the motherboard was built for SDRAM, like every other board (FX, LX, BX, GX, etc..), there would be no need for the MTH. So lets dump this high latency shit RDRAM and get on with DDR-SDRAM. Don't think DDR will win over RDRAM? Well look at the next-gen chipsets. Yes, some still support RDRAM, but once the contractual agreements I'm sure you'll see support for RDRAM start to vaporize. Intel supports DDR and Intel obviously is distancing itself from Rambus ASAP. Of course, we do need a high bandwith solution to puny SDRAM, but the solution in my opinion is not the overly expensive Rambus technology.
I run Netscape all the time and its nowhere *near* that buggy for me. Is this Windows you're talking about? Maybe you don't have enough RAM to be a multi-taking demon or maybe I'm not visiting the same sites as you. What's your CPU, RAM, & OS? Are you visiting sites with alot of long tables? Just curious...
Anyway, just to note I like Mozilla alot and I've been using it more and more instead of Netscape 4.x. Also, I think its important to note that at least with a crash in Netscape or Mozilla those crashes don't require a reboot like IE. That sucks!
That is blatantly wrong. The license is for one computer. So if you delete the old copy then you can *super legally* install it on another. No where in the article does it say that is illegal. No where in the terms of agreemement is that wrong. What Microsoft doesn't want you doing is installing Win98 on both machines concurrently. If one is a Linux box then things are "A" OK. So in the endearing words of programmers everywhere... RTFM!
"Mention that preinstalling the operating system on the new PC saves considerable time, expense and trouble"
"Point out the benefits of a legally licensed, preinstalled operating system."
"Sell your PCs fully equipped with legally licensed operating systems preinstalled."
Like the subject says this is not Windows specific. It only encourages that users do not pirate their OS. Of course Linux is free so there isn't a licensing issue. However, obviously this does not apply to Windows, BeOS or OS/2(hehe)... Anyway, nothing to freak out about. Just encouraging *licensed* software.
Although I think Microsoft is a monopoly and should be forced to play fair so that other OSes (can't imagine which;) can compete, I also agree with the due process opinion. Circumventing the appeals court does not allow due process. I think the executive side was foolish and arrogant to push for a straight to the Supreme Court route.
