Pretty much the same battery and the same concept as here, but with the promise of 10X improvement. There have been other articles just as promising, but we never really get the promised stuff. And don't get me started on the story about the new 200 mpg motor for electric car that was posted many years ago and "only two years before we will see it in cars"./. just posts too many of these stories as if they were real.
In recent years I've read, right here on Slashdot, about a couple of new li-on breakthroughs that we were told would be giving us 10x improvements, And at least one was claimed to be easily applied to current manufacturing techniques. So why should I believe this? And why should I get excited about a 3X "improvement" when we;ve already been told about 10X improvements?
How was the plant paid for? I know that in my area that the power companies have managed to get the regulation authorities to increase the price of electricity long before the plant is ever built, letting the customers pay for the construction. And without giving the customers stock in the company, even though they are effectively forced to become investors. And this is done with the claims that the electricity is needed and it will keep rates low.
Now they want to shut down the plant? Because building it did help keep rates low? If it was financed completely with private money then they might just get away with that. But if it was financed with rate payer money. then there ought to be a hell of a lawsuit over this move that will drive down supply and drive up rates.
Under section 474.17 of the Commonwealth Crimes Act, it is an offense to use 'a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offense,' punishable by three years in jail."
I'm very offended that he would suggest this. In fact I find it menacing and feel harassed. Lock him up!
because a minimum of four satellites are required in the sky for a smartphone or vehicle to use their signals to calculate a positional fix.
Lets be more accurate here. A minimum of 4 satellites are required to be in the sky that can be observed at the same time from the same point on earth. Hopefully these satellites are relatively close together, because otherwise they might never all be visible at the same time. And if they are, since they are in low earth orbit they will pass by relatively quickly and only be briefly useable during each orbit. So, if the orbits are close this may allow a little bit of testing, but the "system" is still too satellite poor to be of any real use for navigation (at least unless you combine the signals with info from other U.S. or Russian satellites).
The fact that there are no disc-shaped aircraft in the skies today
What fact? Seems to me that there well could be, since we have further evidence that if anyone were to see one they would just be discredited by a lying government.
Wouldn't it make more sense to create bacteria that can extract the gold known to exist in seawater, or some other abundant source, than to come up with this publicity grabbing but overall worthless trick?
Your eloquently supported position convinced me. After all, what Beck says is nearly as crazy as calling a person an "EVE Online diplomat". And to suggest that the CIA would do anything wrong is just insane.
You got it. The followers of the prophet wouldn't be nearly as upset if it was just nonsense that was spouted. They are upset that it was truth that was said. Makes their entire belief system seem a bit silly.
I believe that you have confused the excuse for him being arrested for the reason that the government started looking for excuses in the first place. The reason that he is arrested is suppression of free speech. The excuse is the things that you mention, which otherwise would have never been acted on by the government (just like they had been ignored for years prior).
Your own post was male bovine excrement. California releases people who are true threats to the public all of the time, claiming that the jails are too full and other nonsense. This guy was clearly targeted because of a silly little film he made, no because of anything that he did, and had been doing for several years before the film trailer was posted.
Absolutely correct. California could be better using their time and effort protecting us from Linsey Lohan and others like her, but they release them after 45 minutes because the jails are too full. But this guy said something (supposedly) unpopular, so the system is going after him with everything they can come up with. This is clearly an effort to appease a supposedly religious group by further eroding basic American freedoms.
All you are willing to say about them is problem with a religious organization ???? If you are so cowardly that you are not even willing to name those who you claim have wronged you, then you deserve the treatment that you get.
I was going to buy the thing until you gave us that insight. So now I've decided to not to get it and that poor bastard can just starve. See, that's better.
The problem with this view was that spending for Lyndon Johnson's Great Society dwarfed the Apollo program, that the programs in the Great Society largely failed to address poverty...
That's not true. I was a little kid at the time, but I remember Johnson announcing the "Great Society" and even then I realized that it would cause a lot more poverty. And I was sure right. What the author ignores or fails to understand is that the "Great Society" was designed to increase poverty, not eliminate it. It did exactly what it could be expected to do.
Programs like the space race improved a lot of things for everyone. Programs like the "Great Society" only siphon money from worthy projects, and make poverty seem more attractive.
I realize this will seem cynical, but I can't help notice that the Democrats' voting base has long been the poor. They benefit by having more poor. The Republican's voting base tends to be the better off, those not looking for handouts from the government and generally wanting less government, not more. They tend to understand that they actually have to pay for anything that the "government" gives them, and passing that money through several greedy hands in Washington before getting some of it back isn't very efficient.
So them rats in the F.B.I. thought they had us when they taped us about wackin; someone to silence him. Be wes got our sources and wes pay good dough for our snitches inside the F.B.I. So now wes got this cool patent on wackin to silence, and whats our lawyers call "Plausible Deniability". Suck it Feds, we're Microsoft, yous can't touch us!
Well, I've read through their site, looking for what was being given away and a link to download it all. Can't find it. So I huess the physical media is needed, or at least you have to be a lot better than I am at finding the link!
With money being tight and paranoia about malware and viruses at an all-time high, the time is right to accept free discs from total strangers and install them on your computer.
Yes, I worked in some of those drives (I remember a "big" 10 meg drive) and the helium leakage will be a problem. But not for WD, only for the users. The helium will leak (the damn stuff is tiny and leaks out of anything ), but WD only needs to keep enough inside or the drive to last beyond the absurdly short warranty period. Then the drive self destructs. Good for WD if they manage to keep creating a market for new drives, bad for the customer.
Back in January 2008 /. ran this article:

You're rather off-topic. But I just wanted to say I went to one. However, I was the only one who came!

It is commonly understood that crystals exist in a state of matter that is periodic in space.
If your Bullshit Detector didn't go off as soon you read this in the original post, then I have a new religion that I would like to share with you.

Pretty typical of /., but a good reason not to include the date in the summary.
