    No really. I have only 1 program that uses .NET. I have to say I'm not that impressed with it (though I accept this could be a problem with the program rather than .NET itself). This program I use at work only - the .NET framework is not installed at home as I have no need for it.

    I'm currently in Lagos, Nigeria for a project and I've been using Skype over our crappy VSAT connection. I expected huge latency but it works really quite well. Top marks to Skype.

    True. And at least with XVID you can choose which player to use (I reccomend Media Player Classic).

    Perhaps because ISPs are unwilling to provide data on who downloaded what from Usenet? I know if my newsfeed did I'd switch.

    I use Skypeout to call France from the UK. Quality is variable (but generally OK).

    The main reason I use it is because it's cheap - *20* times cheaper than my phone provider to call France.

    *newer*? I used to work at a place about 10 years ago where we had a machine that churned out personalised (with name & photo) cards and wrote the data too.

    It was a bloody great big clunky thing attached to a DOS based PC.

    I used to work for a company that developed simple access control systems. You would be supprised how many people swiped their credit cards through the reader.
    All invalid card numbers were logged. We had equipment to print & encode our own cards so it would have been easy to produce forgeries (without the hologram though).

    Actually I just installed Win98 on my sisters PC today. She was previously running XP but wasn't happy because XP was slower (seemed OK to me...) and some of the kids games didn't work on XP. It's only used for web, games and a bit of word processing.

    It's the same problem in Kenya. We have a satellite disk on the roof of our office in Nairobi which we use for telecomminications (VPN etc.) but we're forbidden for using it for VOIP.

    So when do you think the "Senegalese Minister" scam will overtake the "USA sex/mortgage/insurance/whatever" scams? 90% of my junk mail originates from the US. Most of which is only applicable to US people but somehow they're not clever enough to decide that a .co.uk address doesn't lie in the USA.

    Rubbish. A bus will take many more passengers than 1 bus load over the full route! People get on and off all the time so your bus could carry many 100s of passengers on just 1 journey in a city.
