  4. Re:Hmmmm on Employee Stock Options Must be Treated as Expenses · · Score: 0

I see a problem even more basic than that.

Let's say Company A has revenue of 10 million dollars.
Let's say they have 1000 employees that in total make 10 million dollars.
For simplcity sake, that is the only "expense".

Let's say they pay these employees in stock options.
If they are required to show these as expenses, then their profit is zero. If they are not required to show them as expenses their profit is 10 million.

Stock options can very easily be used to cook the books. If you do it right, you can make a fledgling company look healthy.

That's what they are trying to prevent, in my opinion.

IANAA either; although, I do handle my family's cheque book....and it occasionally balances

Sometimes it feels we *are* just being contrary. Although, in this day and age that isn't necessiarly a bad thing.

Being contrary for the sake of being contrary helps people who are insecure in the Canadian identity distingush themselves from our American cousins. You'd be surprised how many people up here are like that.

However, in this case, it may just be that we haven't been completely overtaken by our corporate overlords yet.

As an aside, Canada and Mexico are American too.

Screw you. I ain't no stinkin' American. I resent being called that.

I wish people would adopt USian or something more clarifying.

    Try these out for size:
North American for US, Mexico, Canadian.
    Canadian for a Canadian
    Mexican for a Mexican
American for somebody from the USA.

    Seems pretty clear to me.

For your added convenience, you can call people South America, South American. To claify it even further, there are Brazillians, Chileans, and a whole bunch of others too!

    Crystal clear to me.
