As for XP versus OSX.. I can't say much, except there is an enormous supply of business software and games. It would take many years for OSX to catch up.

There are three things wrong with that:

    1. Don't include proprietary business apps, in-house apps, and other "custom" jobs. They could just as well be written for OS X.

    2. Don't let sheer numbers be the deciding factor. How many spreadsheet apps do you need? (For that matter, how many are there?) You can run a business on a Mac. The Apple Store is proof of that. (Can you run any business on a Mac? See #1.)

    3. The Mac does not lag behind when it comes to games. In fact, I have games for my Mac I haven't even bothered to install yet. Granted, a few high-profile games are PC-only. There are also plenty of games that are (or were) Mac-only. The majority of games from big name software houses nowadays are cross-platform.

Though I do agree that the story is a Troll in Interesting's clothing.

I keep hearing this line about pictures on McDonald's registers. I've never actually seen this, so where do you live that you've come across this? I worked at McDonald's until recently, and the registers they were still using basically required you to memorize a 200-300 item hash table; since only 6 characters were allowed for each item, you had to remember what a "SAECBS" was. (Sausage, Egg, and Cheese Biscuit.) There was a little more space on the keyboard overlay, of course, but if you hit the wrong button, you have to know what you just entered.

Are you talking about the US? That's the point. There isn't another host. You get one ISP for DSL. One ISP for cable. Often, they end up being comparable. Often, one or both aren't available at your house, though they may be at a neighbor's house.

I suspect deregulation and increased competition would help the telecom industry more than anything else. The wireless market has certainly become rather cutthroat.
