  1. Electrical Code / Community College on High School Students Forced To Declare A Major · · Score: 1

Part of the problem with teaching you how to run wiring and such is that electrical code changes periodically, so unless you are working on the field, you wouldn't be up to date on the most recent code. Also, for plumbing and electrical work, I believe you would still have to work under a Master for several years before you could do unsupervised work. If you want introductory knowledge, maybe you should look at the local community college for classes in these subjects.

Since you said you would be modded down, there is no need to worry, unless you really wanted to be modded down. I'm not sure if there are rules on reverse psychology in place, I will have to consult the moderation manual.

  7. Behind Baseboard on 6 Burning Questions About Wireless Networks · · Score: 1

What I did was a little more involved, but unnoticeable upon completion. I removed the baseboard from my walls, put a whole in the drywall at each stud, and snaked the cables in between the studs. The hole at each stud was wide enough for the cable to come out one side of the stud and go back in the other side and tall enough so there was plenty of room to squish cables into. After snaking the cables, I just nailed the baseboard back up, being careful where you put the nails. To get between floors I just used the area where the air conditioner return went.

I will not claim to be an audio pro, but I knew I had seen devices that sample at much more than 16 bits/44.1 kHz (CDs), so I googled and found this device http://www.echoaudio.com/Products/FireWire/AudioFi re12/index.php , which is a product that samples 24 bits/192 kHz, which leads me to believe that masters probably are recorded with higher fidelity.

  10. You mean HD channels? on Windows Media Center Restricts Cable TV · · Score: 1

I'm guessing you mean 3-4 OTA HD channels, because in my case every "analog" channel (OTA or cable) is encoded and sent out of the firewire port, which you could use to setup a DVR system without buying a tuner card (you can change channels via firewire too). However, none of the digital cable channels are sent out of the firewire port and your guestimate for HD channels is probably about accurate, but most of the HD programming I watch is on those channels anyhow.

  11. Re:Baseband IQ on Broadband isn't Broadband Unless its 2Mbps? · · Score: 1

Real versus complex isn't my major issue with the parents broadband definition. I don't see why you would say that the term broadband infers some center frequency. I believe it more refers to bandwidth, not center frequency. If I have a 1 kHz bandwidth signal centered at 9 GHz, I would not consider that a broadband signal. If I had a 10 MHz signal centered at 1 GHz, that (at least in relativistic terms) would be a broadband signal. I see other people have refered to broadband signals as occupying multiple channels? If I can get the same information capacity through one channel, are the two equivalently broadband?

  12. Baseband IQ on Broadband isn't Broadband Unless its 2Mbps? · · Score: 2, Informative

I have never heard these definitions to which you are referring. I have heard definitions similar to your baseband defintion, with the difference being that baseband signals are complex signals CENTERED at 0 Hz, not signals going from 0 to some other frequency. The terminology I have heard to refer to a signal going from 0 to F1 would be, a 200% bandwidth signal at a center frequency of F1/2. I have never heard anything remotely similar to your broadband definition. Broadband is a relative "bandwidth" term and has nothing to do with the center frequency. I would be curious to hear if other people have heard your definitions, if not I would say it is you that is techically wrong.

Believe it or not, many people require trucks (not necessarily Hummers) to go about their business. Therefore, there will always be big pickups and tractor trailers driving around and that will make people in tiny cars feel unsafe. My motorcycle doesn't even get 100 mpg (more like 60) and it only has a 600 cc engine and is fairly light. I'm not saying it as fuel efficient as is possible, but most people feel unsafe driving something so small on the highway, and a car that gets 100 mpg would probably have to be similar in size and weight.

  22. BS on Most Digital Content Not Stable · · Score: 1

This is BS. So you said that the CD has a higher undistorted bandwidth than tapes, but went on to say tapes are better because if one encoded something greater than 22 kHz it would alias on a CD. The point is you don't encode anything at a higher frequency than 22 kHz because people cannot hear it (which is probably why tapes were designed to support an undistorted response to 18 kHz). You seem to indicate that aliasing is a phenomenon that gradually gets worse, saying that at 18 kHz a CD is horribly aliased, but that isn't the case. A signal at 18 kHz will not be aliased when sampled at 44 kHz. Furthermore, I think many times sampling for recordings is done at 88 kHz and then later down sampled to 44 kHz so that the antialiasing filters can have a very sharp response at 22 kHz, meaning you can pretty much accurately reproduce anything up to the nyquist frequency. If I digitally sampled my music with a 24 bit A-to-D at 88 kHz, would that make you happier? Or would you still consider the tape to be better? After all, with that I could only encode signals up to 44 kHz, I'm sure way to low of a frequency for the audiophiles ear.
