Back in my college days, Napster and Gnutella was banned by the computing and networking services not because of the legalities, but because all the students in the dorms running this stuff were pounding the crap out of the network. They also limited the number of hits your personal website could have in a day.
I agree. My grandma isn't going to know how to delete the previous installation and re-install. The automatic update feature needs to WORK and 1.0.1 should NOT be rolled out on automatic update until it does, even if it has to disable some extensions! That's better than having the whole thing crash!
Yes, very sad day. The free Red Hat Linux may not have been bringing in cash, but how well can enterprise do on its own? I mean, if all the redhat linux hackers out there switch to a different flavor, won't they bring that flavor to the workplace as well? Feel's like this is the death of redhat.
It is difficult for a family to pay the bills with just one parent working. When two people get together, not only does income double, but so does the debt. And in order to get by, you have to decide which is cheaper. Day care or staying home.
Yup, because it is a *LOT* harder to install, and administer. It's all scary black magic, and down right confusing.
Installing Tomcat isn't difficult at all. I'm all for the J2EE solution over LAMP anyday! Development is quick, applications are scaleable and secure, easier to maintain, and allows better design (business logic seperated from interface). But that's just my opinion.
I think all smokers are. I know I see people turn there noses up at me all the time. I wanted to point out something that I've noticed among us smokers though. We have a special bond. If one person lights up, the other smokers will follow. For example. I was outside of the airport terminal waiting on a shuttle bus to arrive and feening pretty bad. Several people around but noone smoking. I wasn't sure if it was a no smoking zone or what because there wasn't any ashtrays and there was a overhead thingy. but i hadn't had one in hours and figured, screw it... I'm outside. So I lit one up. Shortly after, three or four people walked over near my area and lit one up too. I guess my point is, I will sometimes find myself looking for confirmation from other smokers in certain situations and it was then that I realized other smokers do too. If we're all smoking together, then the non-smokers can't single out someone to harass. Safety in numbers.. or something. lol
No Way! The Da Vinci Code is the best book I've read in a long time! I liked it so much, I've picked up the Angels and Demons one too. I can't wait for the movie to come out!
Firefox 0.6 you could have maybe made this statement. I haven't had any issues after 0.8 release. I was so impressed with 1.0PR, I e-mailed all my friends that its out and its awsome. Even the non-techies friends are loving it. I personally don't think firefox needs an ad in the New York Times. Word of mouth is the best advertising there is. And Firefox has a real good buzz going.
I use firefox at home and at work and i rarely bump into any problems. Yahoo launchcast is the only one I can think of off the top of my head that didn't work correctly for me recently. Was even surprised when one of our vendors are using firefox. Web Development team cringes at having to support a new browser, but so far they everything works perfectly.
If I was as the store to purchase Star Wars, and there was 2 boxed sets on the self... One the original version, and one of the special edition, I'd buy the special edition. But that's just me. Guess I'm just not a die-hard fan.

The public IS changing.
Ever wonder if we were seeded by an alien race?
All too familiar with that glazed over look. I'll have to remember that MS Excel analogy!
That was my thought too. Its a fossilzed martian terd.
You didn't notice the bad acting when you were a kid either.
