Actually, they should do no such thing. Kernel is big and complex enough as it is. Kernel drivers can not use virtual memory, explicit multithreading or advanced algorithms from MP, STL and hundreds of other C++ libraries. And when they have bugs, the system really crashes and burns as opposed to just a couple of processes getting file errors.

You don't think people should be able to see some kind of doctor when they are sick when they can not afford one covered by YOUR preferred level of licensing? In the meantime, the rest of us can choose to use only doctors who opted in to some kind of voluntary licensing and history reporting system.

I have no idea where you live, but electric and water outages happen in most apartment complexes perhaps once in a couple of month and bring down toilets, internet connections and nearby ATMs. As for cars, they go down for maintenance for at least a day every six month and nobody complains. If I go to ebay.com or something and it's down, I'll just try again the next day, big deal.

Dude, you need a good RSS reader. You can check news from thousands of sites on one screen and you can certainly get an asynchronious notification of updated feeds.

What you don't get is affliates who keep sending you junk even after you unsubscribed from the original company's mailing list. Delete the feed and there is no way they can contact you again.

To do what you request, all Apple would need to do is to get all the hardware manufacturers to write OS X drivers for their hardware, or do it themselves.

To be precise, they would only need to partner with one hardware manufacturer - say Sony, who would then be responsible for writing and supporting any OSX drivers for jog dial, memory stick reader and whatever else is non-standard. Just like now, only computers that with OSX (or boot camp) pre-installed will supported. This way, people get to run OSX on OQO tablets, multimedia thingies and so on.
