Silicon Valley is where the tech industry was born. I believe the Silicon Valley thing is over and development will spread around from now on. If anything, the next Silicon Valley is probably somewhere in China or India...
Of course all car analogies have flaws! The basic point is the trend is to add chrome to the car... will use more resources in both cases and do not serve any real purpose aside from the young users feeling "cool" with their computing devices...

The vehicle driving interface have not changed much in the last 80 years or so. This has not stopped us to innovate vehicles. Imagine that every 10 years or so, car manufacturers decided that a steering wheel and pedals are out of fashion and should be replaced by something fundamentally different.
The mess we have today in many fields is related to our priorities as a specie. We placed eyecandy before efficiency and this means we place a tremendous amount of energy in entertainment, games and trendy gadgets that sole goals are to steer attention away from real problems by having an entertainment industry so huge.
The pill sends a signal to a patch that then transmit a wireless signal to your smartphone who then sends the info to your doctor. Cheating this system would be laughably easy, one only need to replicate the patch signal... Also, dont we have more urgent problems to solve than this? It reflects the trend of controlling each and every aspect of our lives more and more. That trend is much more scarier than the tracking technologies such as this one.
