    No doubt the fake profiles/fake chats are true, but how much would they have to pay someone to go out on a date vs the $20 monthly subscription? Not sure that it makes sense. Anyway online dating is good to get some 'skills' but it's not a good place to make a real connection. The women are either not the kind you would go for, or they are looking for Sir Lancelot. Maybe monster.com sent me on some fake interviews...

    So the difference here is that one person has the ability to disturb the whole infrastructure fo the economy, and waste a lot of time and money.
    As bad as they are, a violent criminal only disturbs a small segment of society.
    So a data 'thief' is like a lawn mower and a violent criminal is like an ant eater.

    Ok, how about this....

    1. My Credit/Bank card requires PIN entry for everything.

    2. Every time Card/Bank Account is charged I am notified/emailed.

    3. I look through it every weekend to verify.

    4. If this system is hacked I am not liable.

    5. For large/aggregated purchases I am contacted(my cell rings if I try to charge more than $Threshold within {X,Y} Time Range)

    6. Vendor release merchandise at your peril without vocal confirmation when required.

    7. And it was good.

    You are correct for having high standards, The airline system seems to have a GC problem(s) that noone can find. I see alot of innefficient/cut and paste code out there but usually it ends up meeting the basic requirements in a round about way. However It's all a maintenance nightmare.

    Really the only way to code with a clean conscious is to completely reinvent logic every time you do anything. Or take a more direct approach with vigilantic anarchy.

    If the software is closed source how would you know that it had used a patented algorithm anyway? Patents should be for marketable products only and described from use cases. Just have 'copyrights' on everything.

    Girlfriends are scary, but in general a family business can work if it serves to reduce the unproductive level of politics/backstabbing at the top, if the family is disfunctional it can go in the opposite direction as happened in a company I worked for.

    10% would be a pretty high risk fund. You would probably want to diversify after the first 200k by taking a loan against yourself and starting a wireless network hardware company.

    Shouldn't great movies allow the general public to build a buzz about the movie instead of forcing it down our throats? I thought LOTR2 was a great movie, but watching the special features on the dvd it's kind of nauseating listening to actors profess their blind religious zeal over the greatest director, greatest performance, greatest whatever. Ultimately the public will decide if it's great, not the crew. I guess I have a problem with the way it is marketed.

    you may have a backup battery for your servers but you could be an island in a sea of dead hops.
    I suppose if you were using the internet as a critical service you would want backups lined to a major node, and probably more than one, and or have a sattelite relay.

    I guess an Element would correspond to an object wheras a Tag would highlight a data item in an document. Also, for a webserver serving xml and xslt or css can't you put the processing load onto the client?

    combines the protocal, network location, and resource descripion all in one. However the resource could be distributed at more than one site(or protocol), or change addresses, which would break all the referring links. Therefore the resource should be dynamically resolved as per the URI recomendation.

    I think it is a marketing mistake by microsoft to mention Google at all. They will never gain much share with experienced surfers. The focus has to be on the newbies. The first time they see the word 'search' thats what they will use and probably stick with if the ui and content is tailored to them.

    I don't see how you write a can get a String class function to be called using only char*'s as arguments. Thus the abstraction fails.

    It's a possible security/bandwidth problem when it is unintentional. I love the idea of public access but I guess there should be schemes for limiting traffic on a given IP to reduce spamming and force people to share fairly?
