i, for myself, did buy Half Life 2 and i did know before that an internet connection was required to activate the game.
i don't really like the concept, but i'll give it a try. if it doesn't work, i'm not going to buy a game following the concept above, again.
it really looks like that.
i have an AMD64 and even after hours of gaming it never peaked over 45C with an ambient temp. of around 25-26C, while the motherboard temp. stayed fairly constant around 32C.
for "normal" desktop operations the CPU temp. rarely exeeded 35C.
if we're talking of mu Arae, well it's not a M-spectral type star, but a G3V with 1.9times Sol metallicity.
luminosity is 1.7 Sol
mass 1.32 Sol
http://www.solstation.com/stars2/mu-arae.htm
problem solved by alt-tabbing out of the game and deleting the save file in the user directory. i didn't use it all that often but i did use it. considering that enemies could see you through smoke and darkest night from a mile away if you triggered something and never lost track of you i don't even consider it cheating. heck it's my time and my fun and i find it boring replaying "search and destroy" 50 times because a tank spotted you in the thickest bush once you discharged a weapon. not to talk about "alamo"...
16c and early 17c galleon usually had less than 44 guns. especially spanish ships were known for being severly undergunned. cast iron guns were unreliable because they frequently exploded when they didn't cool enough between shots. most guns of that time were made of bronze, which was extremly expensive.
"Also, a ship with that many guns would probally not have two decks."
The Royal Princ3e, flagship of the english crown from 1670, a 3decker ship of the line with 100 guns had no more than 13 guns/deck (not counting 2 stern guns) and was considerably longer than a galleon.
but the screenshot shows hardly a galleon. the hull looks remotly like one but the rigging is that of a n 18c ship. the mizzen mast shouldn't have 3 square rigged sail, only 1 on top and a lateen sail below. also an early 17c gallon had 2 sprit sails while the ship in the screenshot has jibs, which replaced the spritsail in the 18c. by then the galleon was obsolete.
WW1 was NOT started by germany! Not technically and not morally! At least not alone.
On July 28th 1914 Austria declared war on serbia. Morally France and Russia were at least as guilty as Germany. UK too, but to a lesser degree.
WW2 was the logical consequence of the "peace treaty" after WW1, which the US admittedly didn't endorse. Gee, it looks like there actually was a time when the US was really standing for principles like liberty.
It'd be nice if you'd read something else than the New York Post.
why does this have to be turned into a Christian vs. Muslim debate? i pointed out that egypt was conquered by arabs in the 7th century. is there anything untrue in that statement? if yes, please point it out.
please show me where i claimed that arabs massacred everybody during their conquests. that this isn't true we can see on spain and various other examples. nowhere i qestioned that.
as for the ethnicity of coptes, i'm happy to listen to how it actually looks like. so far, i read that there is a certain percentage of coptes among the egyptian population which are being regarded as having no arabic origin.
i dispute your claim that "we did...". the current (or post 7th century) culture in egypt has little in common with that of the egyptians 4000 years ago. different religions to say the least. and please don't claim that religion has no influence on the cultural circle we today call as "the muslim world". there are certainly great archivements in mathematics and astronomy (just to name a few) by arabic scientists but none of the discoveries you claim for "us" belongs there.
somehow i fail to see what would give you or me the right to be proud of something someone whom you or i only happen to share the language with, has performed.
while i understand your outrage when you are confronted with what you probably call "western ignorance" the style of your parent post will do nothing to change that.
in germany, if your monthly income is below a certain limit you cannot apply for a private medical insurance. why? because the "state" insurances are forced to accept everyone, regardless of his medical condition since he has to be insured. the private insurances, however, might refuse you if they think you are too much of a risk, or the insuarance fee is far beyond anything you can afford if you are an average worker. so it pretty much provides basic care for everyone (or at least it should). is it effcient? by all means no. but not because the idea as such is bogus, but because the system is riddled with bureaucracy and employees who think they do you a divine service if they give you 30 seconds of their valuable time. a bit hire and fire would really be needed here.
actually Thor Heyerdahl proved that ancient egyptians COULD have travelled to the americas in ancient times. not that we really found a proof or something, but it did work in a second attempt 1970.
since the place was conquered by arabs in the 7th century (i think) the current population of egypt doesn't really share more than the territory with the ancient egyptians. so the claim "we invented..." isn't really founded unless he's a coptic Christian, which are belived (by some) to be the descendants of the ancient egyptians.
"Someone needs to explain to me how the EU can enforce American companies to collect a tax for the EU."
I don't think they can, and i don't think american companies should be bothered.
"Seems to me that what is reall going on is liberal 'fairness'. Think about it. You live in the EU and you can buy stuff online cheaper from the US then actually walking into a local store and buying it."
It might not be actually cheaper. Shipping and handling is a killer + import duty.
"And speaking of the EU. What is the deal with that montrosity anyways? You have all these people just boiling over with jealousy about the US, saying all kinds of nasty things. But they all are appearing to emulate us. I mean 250 years ago we were a collection of territories that all were independent."
jelousy? i doubt. emulate? i hope not. and for the degree of independence of states please explain the "war of secession". and somehow i don't think the US have a license on a union.
"But I can look at it another way too. There is another (defunct and sad place today) place that did the same damn thing. The USSR. And we all know what kind of nasty failure that was."
The soviet union was formed mainly by conquest and coercion. states join the EU by their own choice (referendum).
"Sometimes the EU just smacks a little too much of socialism for my taste. I think if I lived there I would be very, very unhappy with the state of affairs."
define what you mean with "socialism" and explain why you don't like it.
"I am not even sure if a common currency is a good idea."
will be seen. i personaly have to say, i like the idea of travelling to the netherlands and not having to go through the currency exchange hassle (+the exchange fee loss). except that merchants used the currency and inflated prices because the figures still look smaller than before (in germany at least) i don't see a real problem so far. but the currency is only 4 years old, so i guess we'll have to wait and see.
apart from speed.
did you try to run unreal2 on both? noticed any speed difference? i did.
Ti200 is too slow for unreal2.
but you are right. there is indeed no need for a upgrade frenezy every 6 months. is there any directx9 game out allready?
"Half of the time in soccer is wasted around midfield, too, kicking the ball back and forth. Really boring. In hockey most of the action occurs around the net in some fashion."
please please tell that to the NJD and every other neutral zone trap enthusiast.
when did a team score than 300 goals a season last time? '96 or so. NHL getting boring and thank Gary Bitme, errr Bettman for dilluting the game in allmost every aspect by "bringing hockey to the south". now Nashville has a team while Ottawa won't. If you watched the olympics last year, that was hockey how it should be.
i'd really like to see a place implementing something like this. every time you need to perform a root duty (and there are plenty) you need to have all the people knowing their parts of the password together.
as i said in a diffrent post there are systems where root doesn't have absolute power and everybody can be held accontable for what he does (trusted solaris for example). it is a bit like what you suggested (more than 1 person have to agree to perform a specific administrative action) but it doesn't limit your work as much (root can be used to install software only). actually few places afford that kind of a system, given the overhead involved. i contracted for banks and insurances and everywhere root had full power (although there were more than 1 sysadmin). i guess only the military actually deploy that kind of systems, but i'd really like to see it more widespread, since i hate the idea to be at the mercy of a guy who wakes up in a bad mood and hates the whole planet.
trusted solaris is your friend here, if the company involved is willing to fork over the cash for the administrative overhead involved. but as long nothing explodes nobody gives a rat's ass about security anyways.
back in 7th grade our chem teacher, which actually was a demoted biology teacher wanted to show us an exothermic reaction by dipping a SMALL quantity of sodium into water. she had a 0.5 liter berzelius(sp) glass and tried to cut off a small quantity of sodium from a chunk of about 100-150g (estimate). she held that chunk with some sort of pliers. anyhow she didn't hold it firmly enough so the whole chunk fell into the glass causing a prety loud bang. the glass broke into thousends of pieces. i'm still surprised nobody got hurt.
not to be smartassing, but proxima centauri is actually 4.27 ly away. in roughly 9000 years barnard's star (now 5.9 ly away) will be 3.8 ly from the sun.

most experienced pilots dead?
for Japan maybe, not for Germany.
last time i checked most of the 250+ kills pilots were alive after the war.

i'm still greatefull i could go on without saving the damn Ralari.

you mean that's going to apply to pr0n site access too?

ouch. that's gonna hurt my budget!

as far i know, when i buy let's say a computer abroad i have to pay the VAT when it arrives at customs.
there are rights you cannot waive. for a good reason. i hope it stays that way.

buy a Constrictor and get off Zaonce at once!

Q: how many Ewoks fit in an industrial sized blender?
A: i don't know, but gee, i'd love to find out.

indeed. maybe Zaonce, Leesti or Tionisla would be good naming choices as well. or maybe Lave.
