You could figures that out when apple launched OSX. Interface design Apple does something. Good, bad, doesn't matter. MS copies it and makes it ugly. OSS copies ms. We make it less eyesore ugly, but more huh? ugly. Also we add so much features that it confuses people. Rince, lather, repeat.
Same here. My win 2k box crashed 3 days ago, and that smae day i added some hardware to my linux box so i had to shut it down to do that. However, that's kinda unusual.
On a serious note. Said win2k box does nothing but run kazaa and wait till i can afford a grafx card that's good enough to play vice city. It crashes about every month for no reason. I have a apache/ftp/ssh server. It is a p200. Admitttadly it's hardly ever particurally stressed. (Supid mistakes on my part). It has never crashed and has been up about 130 days currently. (time since UPS last died). I'm gonna have to say the BSd box is much more stable.
iir, it uses 3cm tall ram. this is easy to find, you just gotta make sure it's the right size. IIRC, the PNY ram at compusa is 3.5 cm ram, but other stores stock ra that happens to be 3 cm. It's hit or miss, and never a feature. Take a ruler memory shopping. I think the apple store that i go to has 3 cm ra, but even at an apple store, be careful.
1) get an eMac. You'll be much happer. 2) However, i'v done this. So here's what i didn: Get a lot of ram. At least 256 more(maybe you can get by with less as i also run openoffice, but ram is dirt cheap). Don't expect to run anything in Classic mode. It runs really shitty (worse than usual) on these old boxen. So you may end up having to shell out for all new apps. However, all will be in vain, as the screens on those are too lo res to run anything properly. You'll fin that the control panel and many dialogs don't fit on the screen. If you're gonna buy a new monitor/grafx card, it'll make mroe sense to buy a new eMac.
Personally i'd get a eMac. It's got much better hardware, a damn nice screen and it can pump out classic mode apps reasonably ok. You can get the base model for only $799, which is pretty damn cheap.
Is the wps office file format freely publicised? Weather it is or not, i think the openoffice/abiword/kword devs better start adding compatability or oss word processors may lose a lot of grount in china.
This is getting ridiculous. I used to think the SCO execs would pump, dump, and hire lawyers to get them out of touble. But they're going to far and may actually not be able to get out of legal trouble.
How can I steal power from a high tension line? That's easy. Get a large firework tied to a lot of stripped wire. Launch it over the line. Connect to house. Apply Gold-bond to burns. Done.
I've been doing it for years.
When will the powerooks get G5s

Has anyone heard when the powerbooks will get the G5. I think it may be soon as the powerbook is definatly a major product for apple.
Ever heard of an eMac? It's like $700 with monitor. Cheaper than the dells and a much less shitty computer. We buy $1000 dells. They suck. I kept using the 3 yr old gateways whenever i had the chance. Of course now, thouse gateways have been relaced by dells, so i guess i'll learn to love the bluescreen.
No, the problem is OSS can be suppported by a very few as there is no per copy cost of the code. In the real world, everything has a per unit cost so a few people can't support everyone else.
I'd suggest gentoo. Of course there's no corporate backing, but if your company considers that ok as gentoo is completely free, then go for it. If not, don't put your ass on the line and go with SuSE.
If you use gentoo, here are a couple tips. 1. forums.gentoo.org. You can get help on anything here. There is a thread on how to get oracle running on gentoo as well. 2. Use a test platform. This is always a good idea, but you can also build binary packages on your test machines that you can then copy over to the production machines to avoid the long downtimes associated with portage and still get all the functionality of a source-based system. 3. Make sure you know gentoo well before putting it into production use. You will find a lot of tricks and stuff which will make it much better that you may miss the forst time around. 4. But most of all, if using a distro with no commercial support is hazerdous to your job, do not risk it.
Dumping this blatantly will definatly prompt a fraud investigation. Though the SCO C*Os may well buy their way out of trouble, i hope the case will be high nough profile to clear linux's name.

Would you object to your kids downloading Shakespeare's sonnets from th'Internet?
Yea, because i fucking hate sonnets. That's all we did in english class last year. If shakespeare wasn't dead i'd shoot him. Where's his grave for me to dance on.

put that in your shared file. Bam, distributed backup.

Everyone i know has an AIM account. Who cares what happens to MSN?
pico sucks. nano rules.
(btw, as i've only used pico a handful of times, what's the difference)
but I'd like meeting a pothead better than a drunk in a dark alley, what about you?

uh, i think the beige G3 that i run osx nicely on has built in usb. I'm not sure. it's not my box, i just get paid to keep it going.

I know there are bgillions of Linux zealots that are gonna say "but even fewer are for Linux than are for Apple." This is true.
Unless things have changed recently, it's actually not true.

'nobody ever got fired for buying IBM'
Wrong. Apparently some guy at Sun got fired for buying IBM.

Gives a whole new meaning to, "getting in touch with your feminine side".
Especially when your feminine side if your entire left side.
Including the hardware?
That would be really cool.
