    RIAA: Cds are overpriced and add nothing of value to anything. Piracy is as good as th real thing.

    MPAA: DVDs are more reasonably priced, but still overpriced for all but the best movies. I have 10x more downloaded movies than i have DVDs, but i still buy some DVDs. Piracy is as good for most movies, but not all.

    Books: Books are cheap and in an easy to use format. PDFs are not.eBook readers are not as good as dead tree books. Piracy sucks by comparison.

    Try gentoo. The gentoo community is very good about being nice too newbies and people with questions. That is on of the reasone i like gentoo so much.

    Linux: Read sticker. make menuconfig find device and select it. make kernel. turn off computer. put in card. turn on computer. Not really that bad, imo. I think linux handles hardware better than windows just b/c it comes with all the drivers in /usr/src and no annoying hardware installers install lots of shitty, junk software.

    Build a gentoo or LFS system on a bigger system and copy th complete system over to the lappy. Btw, try finding a 2.0 or 2.2 kernel to see if it goes any faster. Remember software form the era of your laptop will run a lot better then moder software.

    You do not need to reinstall. Gentoo version numbers only refer to the install CD. emerge -u world and you'll be in the same place you would be with a 1.4_final install.

    If he's riding, He wouldn't be able to take pictures. And Depending on how he stops the cart it might be moving too fast if he lets it go unloaded. (It weighs 100 lbs instead of 300)

    Have you actually used an NIC? They're terrible. Good idea, but terrible implementation. That's why they went under.

    What killed the ThinkNIC anyway?

    Poor implementation. The hardware was too slow, The interface too poorly designed, and the hardware too unreliable. We had some at my camp this summer. 2 of the 6 broke. The others had a very unsatisfactory user experiance. However, i bet a decent implementation of the idea (hopefully what these are, but i don't know) would be useful in some areas.

    At my camp, they provided NICs for staff to use for email/web surfing. They seem like a good idea for thos e kind of appications. Except NICs sucked. First the hardware was way too slow. It took forever to do anything. Second, and most important, they kept dying. Some vidcard bug or something. And third, the crippled version of netscape 4 is a little out of date. And the mice never worked right. But a decent version of this would be nice. The os on a CD means it won't get corrupted and people won't fill up the com with junk. I hope these are decent as there's a good cance the camp'll but these to replace the dead NICs.

    Not really. I tried to buy a crt recently and CompUSA has nothing but shitty ones. They all look like they've been sitting on the shelf for at least a year and some look affirmatavely broken. I had to get one off ebay since i thionk it's stupid to pay a lot to get a high-end lcd that looks no worse than a pretty normal crt.
