    What is the point of he ISS? If NSA's actually ging to use it for somthing other than a pretty light the sky, then keep it going, oterwise no. Whateverhappenedto all this research that could be done in zero-grav. I haven't seen any of it. All that asie, i'd still be happy to runte lae wile nasa's gone. I usthope Dominos delvrs up there. Who wants to bet on the number of "in soviet russia" posts this one gets?

    1) Alcohol and tobacco aren't marketed to kids. Kids buy a lot less than adults and even then rarely care about more that getting "what's available". Very little shopping. 2) And by tyhe way, tobacco and alcohol are, not is. Simple english. (if its not you native language ignore the comment)

    I hate to tell you, but linux does this. I have never had an app that won't run on my system. It's gentoo w/ fluxbox so not your typical setup either.

    These calls for standardazation are great but flawed. OSS is about choice. We don't need standards. If a buisness wants to impliment standared internally that's fine, but these calls for standardazation seem more like a call for "everything to be like my system".The lack of standards are overcome for the most part by the CLI. There are very few system related tasks that are not done the same on every system via CLI. the graphical forntends and such that aren't standardized aren't necessary, and the tons of apps are an advantage to linux.

    yes. I said it. If everybody was armed, violent crime would not exist. In areas where gun ownsership, crime is extremely low since criminals fear for their safety. There is no way to keep criminals from using guns so make them afraid to comit crimes.

    I use phoenix instead of opera b/c it renders pages better. That would be an even bigger problem with a new browser, plus a small streamlined browser would be slower for me if it didn't have mosue gestures. Mosue gestures make phoenix and opera seem about 3x faster than IE.

    If I figure out how to build OpenOffice, I will probably push that over Office, as well :)

    just dl the installer from oo.org. I installed it on 2 boxes today. I like mac more and more every day since Jaguar. (I never was able to get a 10.1 update. And 10.0 never worked. period)

    The DoD could care less about pratical consumer application, but it'd be real useful to them It it's line of site, the communication'll be a hella lot harder to intercept. The grant is for makeing the devivces more secuere also.

    I will occasionally see funny banners. They get my attention. Kinda like good tv ads. Unfortuantly, most ads just try to be in your face and fail b/c net users get good at avoinding them.

    That's why i love linux. It gives me choice. I don't like X fature on Y app, i'll try app Z and pick. Maybe its not best fopr The Average Consumer, but that's not really the market. Some distros (Red Hat 8, i know) have addressed these [roblems ad as long as you stay in the protective shell of Null, you're fine. But taking the choices out of linux would leave us w/ Windows, but Open-source. We already have for that.

    You use linux; Keep them on winblows until they start wondering why your com is different. then wean them off windows to linux. In the modern workl, being used to wiindows is essential. Plus they'll be screwed at school if they're winsuck free.

    Listen man, is MS did what you wanted, it would bad as bad as GM letting you mess w/ the engine on your car. If they did do, gas stations would also start tinkering w/ the cars and where would they be now?

    When i use it i expect to to be slow b/c of the eye candy, but it runs fine for me. Linux w/ flux on an athlon 1200 is faster than OSX on 400mhzG3s but its not bad.

    Small point about Oracle. There are instructions in the FreeBSd handbook on exactly what needs to be doen to amke it run on BSD. Probobly not official from Oracle, but it will run i guess. I don't have the money for it.

    "It runs better on *nix (per the actual hardware) or requires less hardware power" I know quake 3 does this. I run the windoze version under winex on my gentoo (then 1.1a) system. I can get 1280x1024x24 color with highre framerates than on windoze at 1024x768x24. I like. This was even w/ a radeon using generic X support. My only questions about the livecd are 1) doesn't it need a damn big ramdisk? 2) where did the 16mb stage 1 iso go?
