    I had a catch all account set up on both my domains, and I was recieving up to 4000 spams a day before I had had enough and switched it off - I don't care how good your filtering is - when the spam:legit email ratio is that high it's difficult to trust, and for that matter is a waste of bandwidth - Yahoo's POP3 server would also tend to fail if I had to download more than 200 at a time anyway.

    You don't want a catch all email address - the only time it's ever been used by a human being was when they thought it would be funny to include some of the message before the @, etc.

    cp is just as dangerous: dd is just more powerful and flexible (try cp /dev/zero /dev/hda) - unfortunately cp insists on working in 4KiB chunks, which is very irritating if you have to copy large directories full of large files, and can't use dd.

    Exactly right: number of atoms in 12 grams of carbon-12, but it wasn't always that. More, with a pretty good introduction and brief history of the SI system, with interesting trivia (such as the fact that the metre is defined in terms of the speed of light as of 1983, rather than a wavelength of Krypton-86 radiation) here.

    Does the nvidia driver work without fiddling with XF86Config/reinstallation? I gather that the split between xfree and xorg doesn't affect the nvidia driver, which is supposed to work on both, but any experiences whether this is actually the case on Gentoo? Also, might be worth running "quickpkg xfree" just in case.

    Lead the eye. One of the basic objectives of a good photograph is to keep the viewer looking at the picture. Using lines to lead the eye works well to draw attention to parts of the picture. Fences, roads, coastlines all create interest as well as leading the eye around the picture. Conversely, lines going out of the picture will lead the viewer outside of the picture, and make them feel less interested in it.

    Frames, as discussed in the article also help to create interest for much the same reason, because they also try and stop the eye from leaving the image.

    Why on Earth would you want to do work on photographs in 16 bit mode?

    You've misinterpreted him. He means more than 8 bits per pixel per colour (the 24bit you talk about is 8 bits per colour per pixel, not including alpha). For instance my camera can produce pictures with 12 bits per pixel per colour = 36bits per pixel excluding the alpha channel (no, my camera cannot take photos with an alpha channel:). It is annoying that I can't use all the of the information in my photographs in gimp, and the grand-parent post makes a good point, but maybe someone will include this feature - it is apparently on the wish list. This is the one single feature that is holding gimp back in my opinion.
