    this is really a deep issue, because if one believes as I do, that God exists and that human beings have souls, I do not believe such things like true love could be explained by numbers.

    so is that really proving a MS monopoly, or is it just shrewd marketing on MS's part. I mean, given that MS *has* the boatloads of money, does that mean they shouldn't do it because some others can't? I mean, the whole MS monopoly arguement aside (and I do not like MS), this is capitalism and its a great, free country.

    It is pretty annoying that we're having to wait until the x-box version is ready, but whose fault is this? Wouldn't it be iD dragging their feet on the xbox port?

    not that i'm trying to *diminish* the MS potshot . . . ;)

    Is it really possible that programmers would ever become extinct (at least in some sense)? Will this eventually come down to another man vs. machine battle? I think it has been proved enough times that the ingenuit and creativity of the human mind can create more efficient, reliable products than any machine. And I think such a product is far more valuable even if it takes longer to produce.

    Can't wait to hear more about a next-generation renderer(spelling? ;) though. I've heard pretty cool stuff about Doom III . . .

    flammable stuff rocks! me, my brother, and friends did all sorts of experiments with highly flammable materials. Dw40, lighting fluid, melting mountain dew bottles with propane torches (not advised, the fumes are nasty!). we even learned that a puff of flour will ignite over a candle. anyone want to comment on how that works?

    then there was the incident of scraping the powder out of model rocket engines . . . no joke!

    Over ripe tomatos may be good at being a very nasty attack, but green tomatos and especially crab apples (believe me, i know what i'm talking about) can make for a very painful pelting with.

    hmmm, i'm not *that* old. i don't even really remember the 80's! and i'm definantly not a country boy. do kids still do this?

    Dude, that sounds cool. I remember the good old days playing tank games on the computer, doing things like adjusting the angle and force of a shot, taking wind speed into consideration. Then there was the 3d version . . .

    Kids these days are too lucky . . . ;)

    MS doesn't care who's making hardware? consider OS/2, among the many other manufacturers that MS has dictated exactly how they will implement windows.

    this commitment with AMD may just be a way for MS to get a foot into their door to change a few more things around to their advantage. especially since AMD seems to be so popular among Linux users

    PVC may be fine, but how many of us have heard the stories of Coke dissolving a nail, t-bone steak, etc.? I've also heard highway patrols carry coke to clean the roads after a messy accident.

    that's how those so-called "mag-lev" trains really work, right? of course, those must have well fed cats that are trained to leave the toast alone, although i'm having trouble figuring out exactly HOW your fat cat could eat a piece of toast strapped to its back.

    my stupid cat couldn't even eat a potato chip balanced on top of its head (funny stuff)

    i've kind of been waiting for MSN to do that kind of thing for a while. like require ISP's to run IIS, etc. if they want to access specific MS content. .NET was my fear . . .

    I assure you that 48 hours after a version of IE that does that comes out, there will be a freeware third party patch that "fixes" that bug. And that fix will be wildly popular.

    "wildly popular"? i think not. the kind of people that even bother to use that stupid search button are NOT the people that would be spending time downloading and figuring out how to install, etc.

    btw, i've noticed that that stupid search button makes for some very irritating and bad results. my dad gets frusterated with it a lot. i never use it.
