  1. There is a reason you weren't modded up. on Why BioWare's Star Wars MMO May Already Be Too Late · · Score: 1

People who like fantasy, generally like scifi as well. The players are basically one in the same. When you walk into a book store, take a look where your fantasy books are, and where your scifi books are. They're mixed together in the same spot. The audiences are the same people.

Star Wars Galaxies failed because the subscribers were the same people who played Everquest. People will not subscribe to more than one MMO.

  2. You're wrong. (And right) on Why BioWare's Star Wars MMO May Already Be Too Late · · Score: 1

Most of the WOW dev team were in the top tier Everquest guilds. They saw what was being done wrong with a fantastic game, decided to take that experience and polish it. They very much aimed to make a game that would replace Everquest, and they did. We got regular updates through Everquest how the then unnamed game was coming along. When some the best players/blizzard devs on the Everquest server stopped showing up because the new game was already better than Everquest, we knew they had something big coming.

However, you are now correct that today, MMOs need to find their niche and not worry about beating WOW to succeed. They need to look at subscription numbers of where Eve Online is, decide that is most likely the best possible outcome, and look at their expenses to run a game with 300,000 subscribers in the very best scenario. Remember, Eve Online is one of the only successful MMOs that has withstood WOW, this is the best case scenario for ANY company planning on an MMO. Realistically, they will maybe have 100k subscribers for their first few years, maybe less.

  4. Re:12 billion bailout on Goldman Invests $450m In Facebook · · Score: 3, Insightful

People seem to leave this part out. They keep screaming about the 'bailouts' and tax payer money being 'wasted'. That money has been, for the most part, repaid, with interest. The 'taxpayers' have been making out like bandits with these 'bailouts' because they've decided they don't want the regulation that comes along with it. You take taxpayers money, you play by their rules. It's like people can't beyond the fact that these loans had some pretty heavy strings attached to them for the benefit of the taxpayers.

It was exactly the reason I didn't care fro Tron 2. The first movie presented you with a world that it gave you a lot of time to take it all in. From the scenes of sitting around drinking the water, to wandering around through the crowds after crashing the Recognizer. The scene where they ride over the grid made it totally obvious, grid bugs etc.. In Tron 2, they jump scene to scene, and I didn't want that. I want to take my time and see everything. I wanted to know more of the world they created. Instead all I can remember is: Flynns Place, Arena, Hole in a mountain, disco tower, lake + pillars, and the beam to leave the world. Compare that to the first movie and it feels like they almost hold your hand through the entire world at times. It was awesome.

  14. You don't want multi-tasking. on The Beatles On iTunes · · Score: 1

Ever since they put it on my iPod touch, the batteries last a good five hours, if that. Apps run in the background improperly when you exit them. You have to manually close them by hand every time, which is a huge pain. Apple says it's up to the programmers to fix their apps to not processes and drain the battery.

Problem is, all the apps do this. All of them. If I could find a way to turn OFF multitasking, I would love to. I can't listen to music much anymore because the battery is almost always dead if I forget to charge it every night. I used to go WEEKS without having to charge it, but if I happen to play a game of solitaire and forget to "close" the app, the player is almost dead a few hours later.

    It REALLY stinks.

There has been a lot of original games lately, but you are right about the sequels. Bioshock, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Dead Space, Mirrors Edge, Gears of War, etc. I played them and found them really great games. I haven't and don't plan on, buying any follow ups, prequels, or whatever else they come out with. I usually only break that rule if its a new generation of console and it's the first game for that system like Halo 3. I know I'm missing out on good games, but I much prefer NEW directions over more of the same, even if that same is really really good.

Cable was invented to be commercial free. That was why people originally paid the premium for all those commercial free channels.

Then came the premium cable channels like HBO, Showtime, etc. For the most part those are commercial free, but if you watch Showtimes "Big Brother" they have commercials through-out that. I can only imagine this will get worse and worse and eventually these premium commercial free channels are littered with them. It's bad enough we get to watch a bunch of movie stars in Entourage drink a brand of beer no one in their right mind would ever think about drinking unless they're 50 and sitting in their underwear watching infomercials all night long.
