  1. UHD has been advertising Season 2 forever. on First look at new Battlestar Galactica Episodes · · Score: 2, Interesting

Pretty soon you wont even be able to get a non-HDTV set. I really don't know what you mean by "reasonable" - Do you mean FREE? Because I keep saying people say "If they weren't so much, id go buy one.." .. THEY HAVEN'T COST A LOT FOR THE PAST TWO AND A HALF YEARS. GO BUY TWO OR THREE ALREADY! Yeeesh!

  5. PS3 = End of 2006. HD-DVD players in 3 months! on Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD · · Score: 1

By the time PS3 is released the format war will be over. HD-DVD players are set to hit the store shelves along with dual format HD-DVDs that will be backwards compatable in normal DVD players sometime in June/July. No one knows when the first Blu-Ray players will be available, or the movies. HD-DVD plans to open up with over 250 titles right off the bat. IN A FEW MONTHS. People with HDTV's are DYING FOR CONTENT right now since cable companies are too busy bickering over who gets paid to broadcast what with HDTV channels. When HD-DVD is released first in a few months, you can bet nearly every single HDTV owner is going to snatch these suckers up.

  6. Moxi is NOTHING like Tivo. It is TERRIBLE. on Tivo Signs Deal With Comcast · · Score: 1
Being a Charter subscriber and a long time Tivo owner (5-6 years) I was first in line to get a Moxi because it includes HDTV recording. Something my Tivo does not.

First of all, the TV guide layout is horrible. It only shows the next three shows on each channel and you scroll through, unlike Tivo where it shows you the next 12 or so at a glance. You can also go back a day or so on the Tivo to see what you missed. You can't on the Moxi. The program descriptions on the Moxi are one or two sentences, where the Tivo has an entire paragraph with star ratings, content advisories, directors, actors, if it was a repeat, what format it is in, etc. Moxi again, has a brief and often unusable description.

Second, the analogue recording of the Moxi is messed up. It's like watching TV during a really bad thunderstorm ALL THE TIME. It's because their compression from analogue to digital jsut plain SUCKS and it's a known problem on all the supported Moxi forums. They specifically said there will never be a work around for this. This could be why Charter is on such a push to get everything converted to digital by the end of this year. With this Moxi box, you simply can't watch any channels under 100. It's all static snow.

The season pass that Tivo is so well known for is again, horrible, on the Moxi. It records new episodes, regardless if they are repeats. Meaning, if you want to record CSI Miami, it will record all the new episodes along with all the ones in SYNDICATION on other channels! You cannot stop it from doing this because it see's them as new episodes because you haven't seen them yet, even thought they might be 3 years old! This again, was a known issue, and has been promised to be fixed sometime this year. I had my Moxi last year. I don't know if they've fixed it by now or not, but it made watching my favorite shows not happen.

The original poster doesn't know why anyone would still want a Tivo? Simply because their SOFTWARE destroys their competition. It is, and will probably always be in the forseeable future, the best of its kind.

I have to find a way to get my city to dump Charter and the Moxi and get Comcast.

  11. I have paid my Tivo subscription for 6 years. on Can TiVo be Saved? · · Score: 1
I could have bought a lifetime subscription for a measly $150 back in the day. Why do I keep paying? Because it is worth every single penny of every single month I pay this. Their programming guide info is so accurate, so so complete that anyone trying to compare it to the other PVRs out there (I have tried nearly all of them) is just absolutely nuts. The charm of the Tivo is not just its elegant interface, but the absolute detail of their guide data. They provide every bit of detail you need to find your shows, with very long descriptions and rating schemes. Most of their competitors only have two or three sentences max for each show listing. Tivo usually has an entire paragraph filled with actors, ratings, content type, repeat info and so much more.

Their competetition can keep putting out new DVRs, but as long as they're a pile of crud, i'll stick with my Tivo until the end of time. An HD PVR with really crummy guide data is entirely useless to me.

Dreamcast didn't have DVD. Same boat.

XBox2 will be released only a few (3-6) months before the PS3 is released in Japan. It will carry Blu-Ray, which is just like the PS2 using DVD as its medium. It will "one up" the XBox2 bigtime. Same boat.

The XBox2 will more than likely NOT have backwards compatability. The processor AND graphics processor are so different it isn't even funny. I suppose they could do a dual chipset box, but short of that, I dont think we'll see much compatability.

It looks to me like XBox2 is headed to the Dreamcast way. Certainly E3 or before will clear this all up.. But it will be hard.. Even moreso now that GTA4 has been announced as an exclusive for PS3 already.

They can be easily spoofed and never 100% accurate. It's like saying a guy in a blue car robbed a store and arresting a guy driving the first blue car you see on the road. You just can't do it. So unless they're busting down your doors and taking your movie collection while you're torrenting a movie I dont see how ANY of these lawsuits can ever win. IP Addresses are simply NOT ACCURATE to accuse people of crimes.

  23. Moxi is absolutely terrible compared to Tivo. on TiVo to Offer SDK · · Score: 1
I had mine for a week, and I can say without a doubt, there is no competition for Tivo from these guys. The video encoding quality is TERRIBLE, and is a known issue. The main Moxi guy posts on some of the forums and says this will never change. Their season passes are broken, as they see "first runs" as any show YOU haven't recorded before, even if its from 2001 and a repeat. Their show descriptions are the worst part, its usually TWO sentences describing the show, compared to an entire paragraph from Tivo! They dont let you know if there is any Violent, Nudity, Adult Content, etc in the program either! The GUI looks nice, but it really isn't usable at all. On Tivo, you can see 12 stations down the left side, and to the right, you can see the next 12 upcoming shows for each channel in advance, with the Moxi, you get to see THREE! THREE!

I'm very suprised you haven't sent that piece if junk back yet. Reading most of the forums, pretty much everyone feels the same way. Moxi is hopeless.

  24. You still dont end up with Tivo listings. on TiVo to Offer SDK · · Score: 1

  25. You need a card for EVERY tuner. on A Brief FAQ on CableCards · · Score: 1
That's why the dual tuner HDTivo coming out next year has two CableCARD slots. I checked with Charter and they only charge $1.50 / Month per card. Not bad. Now if Tivo would just release this damn thing out RIGHT NOW the balance would be restored and Tivo would be back on top.

Most of us dont want two way CableCARDs. We dont care for PPV, VOD, or goofly little cardgames. We just want our HDTV going right into our Tivo season passes. While those features are "ok", they do not make or break a product at this point. Cable DVRs are SO CRAPPY right now that Tivo really needs to capitalize in this market and get with the program.
