First look at new Battlestar Galactica Episodes

mikrorechner writes "GateWorld has had a look on five new episodes of the upcoming season 2 of Battlestar Galactica. Beware of spoilers. In other news, season 2 will be shown first in the US by the Sci-Fi Channel starting July 15, with UK's Sky One following in October." If only UHD would simulcast in HD this would be perfect.

Bear McCreary put together a great soundtrack for season one that will be released to stores in June. You can listen to samples on his site or on the record company promo page.

I hardly found the original appealing. It was waay too campy. The new one is MUCH better. (Ratings alone should prove my point.)

about 10 minutes of this show a few months ago.

I could not tolerate the jerky camera technique. It leaves me feeling nauseated.

Why the fuck do they have to jerk the camera around like a 5 year old kid is handling a 80lb camera??

I guess they figure they can distract you from the digital effects artifacts that way.
Rather than take the time and effort to do a good job on the effects, they cover up cheap, shitty effects with shitty camera work.

I was a huge fan of this show when it aired in the 70's, but this mess, no way..

Ok, first I must admit that I also feel with a weak stomach with this kind of camera moves.

But it add a "i'm inside this battle" feel that you don't have with clean and slick steady cam behaviours.

Like for plane fighting shots, if you see it from a chase plane angle (or better, a rudder tail cam) you really are into the fight. Not just some kind of passive observator that look at planes far away.

      Let's call this "immersive"

      Problem is you get:
I'm inside the battle in the bathroom.
I'm inside the battle on the bridge.
I'm inside the battle in this dramatic scene where people cry.
I'm inside the battle where people fuck for no reason then empty headed viewers thing it makes the whoe "deep and meaningful".

Friday and Monday nights. They started re-running it right from the beginning as soon as the series ended, so that people who'd missed it would have another chance to see it.

Unlike most other shows that go to reruns, BSG is being shown in the correct order, and they'll just have time to show all 13 episodes before season 2 starts, so you won't have to suffer the three-month gap between seasons! They even posted the first episode online (legally, I mean, on the official site).

The mini-series is even better, but that is out on DVD, and it's also been on regular broadcast TV (NBC, I think).
