  1. Small Business Webcasters are fine under provision on Shocked, Shocked at Payola · · Score: 1

s that they made with the CARP/RIAA deal recently. They in fact did not want hobby/small business webcasters to all go belly up, so they made provisions specifically for them so they dont get run into the ground. They will basically have to pay jack and squat under it. Your favorite techno shoutcast will still be around...

  2. We didnt buy consoles to play "online". on XBox + UltimateTV for $500 · · Score: 1

Thats what the computers are for. All the great MMORPGs that are catering to selling these online services are also available for the PC. Consoles are game stations, you sit in front of the TV, plugin Mario and away you go. Add anything extra to that and good luck! MS has already proven their inline strategy is terrible as EA dropped all their sports support for it. MS wants to run everything themselves, the games companies want otherwise, so its a lose lose situation. Oddly enough, these companies are all hinging to Nintendo (Who dont even have a solid Online plan other than "we have the hardware for it! Devs go nuts and impress us!") and Sony.

  5. MicroSoft will lock people from Online Gaming. on MAME Ported to (Chipped) Xbox · · Score: 1, Interesting

Just a guess that software will actively look to see if your machine is modded or not and lock you out if it is since they cant verify if you actually bought the software or not.

  6. Why does he care? He's a musician not a record exec on Moby Says Techie Fans = Fewer Sales · · Score: 0

The day an artist stops being an artist and becomes a sell-out is the day they start to write summaries why their albums arent on the charts. Really, how many true artists give one flying sh*t where their album stands on the national charts? Not very many. Sure, they love to get paid, but to most, even thinking about caring why their album is going up and down on charts doesnt even cross their minds. They're too bust writing music to worry about it. Moby needs to go away now. He's sold out and it's too late to save him.

  7. Why? Shoutcast is considered "niche". Meaning..... on Copyright Office Publishes Final Webcasting Rates · · Score: 0

...they dont need to pay. Read the judgement. Niche sites (Which almost 95% of those shoutcast links ARE.) dont need to worry about having to pay out the ass. They made special provisions for "niche and small business streaming". You guys should be cheering about this, not condemning it. The RIAA will grab money from AOL and YAHOO and not much else.

  8. NO ITS NOT. NICHE WEBSCASTING DOESNT COST SQUAT. on Copyright Office Publishes Final Webcasting Rates · · Score: 0

They made SPECIAL provisions for "niche" and "small business" webcasting so all these sites dont go off the air! Did ANYONE read the article fully? The ONLY people the courts were concerned with were big time companies like AOL and YAHOO who will set up full 128kbit streams of ALL the music in the world to everyone in the world for free! These LARGE COMPANIES are the ones who will have to pay. The smaller streaming and hobby sites will most likely have to pay NOTHING, ZIP, NADA. This is one aspect that they looked out for! THEY DID NOT WANT THESE SMALL NICHE INDEPENDENT STATIONS TO FADE AWAY.

  9. Not quite dead! Read. on Copyright Office Publishes Final Webcasting Rates · · Score: 1, Funny

They made provisions for "niche and small business" streaming sites. GROOVE SALAD would *most definately* be categorized as "niche". Most likely it will cost Groove Salad next to nothing to keep streaming.

We hear about this crap every week. It will NEVER come out. People have had this technology since 1992 and HDs will always stay around. Nothing will replace them or DVDs.. hell DVDs still arent even standard yet. Where is IBMs HDs that are made out of atoms that can hold 1 terrabytes on something the size of a penny? We heard about this around 3 years ago, is it out? Nope. Will it ever be? Nope. People need to stop with these mundane useless stories. Until it is sittng on the shelves at Best Buy it doesnt need to be posted here. /rant off

  12. You answered your own question, buddy. on Monopolists Dropped Off At The County Line · · Score: 0
It really sucks for the OSS "movement" when this is the only means of market penetration that they can come up with. What exactly are these people hoping to accomplish by forcing their local government to switch?

It shows you how much of a Monopoly MicroSoft really is. These are obviously safeguards put into place to prevent companies like MicroSoft continue on in their ways. It will effectively pull them from the #1 spot and place them off the list (Like any Monopoly SHOULD have done to them). This pussyfooting around with MicroSoft in courts just needs to end. The company needs to be split, put out of business, and extinguished.

  13. Re:wait a minute... on Nintendo Ressurecting Classic NES Games to the GBA · · Score: 0

Majority of people who own a GBA and dig Nintendo based products already OWN a Gamecube. This isn't some goofy ploy, but it's reality. The Gamecube and GBA from day one have been built to interact with each other like this. Nearly 1/4 of the games scheduled to come out (and a lot that are already out now) all interact with the GBA. There shouldn't be any reason to not own a Gamecube at this point anyways. Well, if you like Nintendo games, that is. Old or new.
