HP TouchPad Go: $99?
·
· Score: 5, Interesting
I'm typing this on a TouchPad now, and follow webOS news pretty regularly hoping for positive news. However, the original source that this article supposedly refers to (http://www.webosnation.com/review-hp-touchpad-go) specifically states that:
... the fact that this tablet will never see the light of day puts a rather large damper on the party.
P.S. The only one of these ever sold was on eBay a month or so ago for over $700
Images of transforming fighter jets were dancing in my head... (sigh)

Good luck buying a car, or a house.
Unfortunately today, the costs of purchasing such major items necessitate the usage of credit. My mother at 49 is unable to get a loan to fix her house, because she's paid in cash her entire life and has no credit history. She'll just have to save up until she has enough, right?
While I appreciate the simpleness and ease of what you're promoting, fact is unless you are independently wealthy or have no interest in having a family (how are you paying for the kids' college?), you have to have some form of credit.
People like us? Sounds rather elitist...
(By the way, I gave up a career in IT to work with kids, so I'm pretty sure I don't have a strong interest in money.)

Nothing is said about them ending ShopSafe, so there's a chance you might be okay. Maybe.
I used to work in a residential facility for disabled children with severe/profound mental retardation, and those who had the hardest time were the ones that contracted MRSA. Because these kids had such significant physical problems, they were often in and out of hospitals and would contract the virus while admitted there. Besides the scary fact that this bug is prevalent in hospitals of all places, it is so dangerous and contageous to children that those who contract it have to be kept in isolation.
Every day I would walk by the isolation ward and look in, just to let the kids know that someone was concerned for them. These children already had the odds stacked against them, and to top it off with the fact those who attended to them had to avoid all physical contact cut me to the heart. How sad is it to be a kid who can never be hugged, having to live without anyone touching them?
If someone can isolate and develop an antibiotic that can cure MRSA, I'll be one of the first in line to shake their hand.
Reading everyone's comments on this topic, I wonder: how many tabs do you keep open? I can't think of a time where I had any more than 10 open at one time, and I've always been able to see at least some of the text on each of them...
Maybe it's just me, but what would make it so you "often click on the wrong [tab]"? I've been using Tab Mix Plus for Firefox for almost a year, and with close buttons per tab I've never closed the wrong tab. The active tab is in bold, and since at least Tab Mix Plus 0.3.0.3 you can color the text of unread tabs.
Part of the reason I sought out such a solution for Firefox was because of the single close tab; you had to either select the tab you wanted to close before hitting the button, or right-click the tab and select close from the context menu. Why not have a readily seen solution?
If anything, recognize that others browse differently than yourself. The least Mozilla can do is make it a native option for the user's choice.
I tend to change my desktop background in Ubuntu to a shade of blue, as it reminds me of open sky... green works as well, because it make me think of living things. What I don't understand is why people are interested in various shades of black and white; why depress yourself even more?
Once upon a time, I worked for a recruiter. Since he had worked in the industry he recruited from for more than 30 years, the companies we hired for knew he would properly screen candidates and only send them the best. I will say that he definitely was one of the better recruiters (and people) I ever knew; I've gone through my share of total morons who know nothing of the industry they're trying to make a quick buck off of.
Do you want to know why companies go through recruiters? Two reasons: recruiters can and will call into competing companies looking to poach dissatisfied workers, and recruiters can ask character questions and opinions that hiring companies might be sued for. Because I don't state the name of the company I'm working for, they can plausibly deny knowledge of any of my tactics. So yes, if I call into your office looking for someone with your skills, and your buddy in the next cubicle says you're a lazy bum, I might skip over you.
By the way, most of the really bad recruiters I knew specialized in hiring IT. Makes you wonder, doesn't it?
... by the way, I don't get paid by the number of people we place, so I couldn't care less if someone accepts a counter-offer. I just know of a number of people that almost took jobs, but went back to their current employer and ended up on the street within a year.
... and I can tell you from experience that when a company makes you a counter-offer, they are only biding their time before replacing you. If the original offer you received is so much more than what you were making and the company wants to match, you've just screwed up their pay scale. Also, unless you were well-loved by your superiors and/or indispensable, you're now considered untrustworthy and thought to be ready to bolt at anytime.
I mean, who wants a significant other telling us what to do? Live free or die, right? /s
All relationships are built on trust. The medium used to communicate is the least of your worries if you can't do that.

Sorry; I wasn't thinking about the details when writing. I did call my old job to check up on some of the kids, though.
