If GNOME has a bug that causes your computer not to function. At least you can use KDE. KDE has a weird glitch on my graphics card that GNOME does not have. If the two were the same and if they both had the glitch, I'd be using windoze right now.
Whether you likeit or not, if you wanna make big bucks from sitting in front of a computer, Waterloo happens to be the best choice. I am gonna have to go there MS or no MS
I saw a screenshot, and my heart skip beat. I thought Linux was about choice, not advertising the same old disgusting desktop. Some say that windows users would appreciate a familiar desktop but, the people who I've converted to Linux all enjoy the different look. I really do not like the way this is gonna end up. The linux market does not have room for another commercial distro, the ones that exist have a hard enough time making money now.
If all these students hack pirated image editing software, then they won't give open source a shot . This is the case at my school. Nobody has heard of GIMP but everyone has Photoshop. Everyone has MSOFFICE no one know OpenOffice
Let's take the example you made
If many artists put on their resume: Experience in GIMP (for example). Then maybe the company will get introduced to GIMP and switch over. The more companies that use GIMP, the more donations GIMP gets. Therefore, if people train in OSS instead of proprietary software, then OSS gets more power. When people pirate software they take away from OSS. Each person that uses OSS is an advocate for it in a way. Therefore everyone who uses pirated software takes away from OSS. THink about it!

I was a fan of SmartDraw myself, then my trial expired. When I tried Linux for my first time,I was happy to learn that Mandrake came with DIa, It lacks the wizards, but gets most of everything done quite well. Try it out
HP printers Dell Printers All are made in Taiwan!!
In the end, Do not we always get the same printer with the same colours and the same time bomb inside it that tells it to explode after the warranty!!
Although mandrake is not the most stable I'll admit. I like its easy to use configuration wizards. They are probably the easiest and best to use in the Linux server market. Many people actually use it for servers, and it has tools for apache, SQL, samba, mail, and much more. You should look into this, it is really nice.
Simply boot a linux X-terminal (Like LTSP) and set it to run VMWARE with windows whatever for certain workstations, and VMWARE and whatever other OS for others. I have never tried this before, but it should work in theory In theory, In theory, doesn't communism work? --Homer Simpson
If you use OSX/BSD/Linux move to Canada, we don't have enough of you guys. It drives me nuts how few people use these great OSs. It is like they pay homage to microsoft!!
Ximian was an easy install for me, however I made a fatal error. I installed it over an existing GNOME in Mandrake 8.2. Although Ximian now officially supports mandrake, I had a few issues after I installed the deely. I had problems using sawfish and somehow certain parts of GNOME configuration were no longer working. Such as changing GTK theme. I find that whenever I was on Monkey Talk for assistance, I never found anyone to talk to. Along with all this, Mandrake's Software Installer would not upgrade Ximian packages.
Red carpet sounded great to me at first. It took me a good 3 minutes during loading time, but it presented a very nice and easy to use system. However it does not compare to Software Manager for Mandrake.
However for all this I got an up to date GNOME system.
I think Ximian is great for distros that do not come with GNOME, but if GNOME comes with your system just use the packages that were on CD. If you really want to, and you use Mandrake, just use the cooker packages to get the latest GNOME.
PS: To people who are going to flame me for using Mandrake: It is the only choice for a newbie with little patience to configure everything.

Whatever you do, you have to have a glass cubicle. With a super tall chair, so that you can talk without people seing your face.
(It is so much more evil this way)
I thought this had something to do with Winnie the Pooh using BSD. Oh well.
I like gnome because it doesn't segfgault every 20seconds, and plus I get gunky vertical lines over any dragged pixmap in KDE 1 2 and 3.
I don't have money, but I plan to contribute when I am older. I've tried each WM, but I keep on coming back to GNOME.
