Bah! No eBooks for me until I can stroll into my local public library, or better yet, download from the library site at home. I already carry a bag of some sort almost everywhere I go so a dead tree book can go along with me in place of some extra-cost/yet-another-electronic-device/theif magnet.
Well, well, well. It seems as though the mob grows restless. I've heard it said conservatives are so narrow minded that their ears touch and I've heard liberals are so open minded their brains have dropped out. I think most of us are too frightened to hear things that challenge us in our comfort zones. Sarah Palin says we need to look out for ourselves, quit depending on the Gubmint, and stiffen our backs with a little pride in America. What's wrong with that? The only people I hear trying to suppress speech in America are folks like Clyburn who want to shut the likes of Beck and Limbaugh down. Franken and Air America were dismal failures because no one wants top hear all the vitriol from Rhodes, etc. I listen a little to both sides of the story -- mostly to keep tabs on both sides. Seems it would make for a more intelligent poplulace if we all do so.
It's just not smart politics to let either side have too much control. Notice all the states and cities controlled by Democrats have massive debt that may go into default?
Just my 2 cents.
I say bullshit! There's evidence that Mars is also warming. No man made CO2 there-- so what does that say? It says Heightened-Solar-Activity. All beyond our control, Climate always changes one way or another. In the 70s the scientists all said we were going to be freezing our asses off at this point in time. Now that several fat cats, ie Al Gore,(the Grand Poopah) are positioned to make BILLIONS on carbon credit trading. Go figure. Cap and trade will cost us dearly. No evidence in the 70s and none now.
And maybe it will be Dirty Harry Reid -- for doing the same thing: opens mouth, inserts both feet and falls on his ass. Check this out http://money.cnn.com/2008/10/03/news/companies/insurance_stocks/?postversion=2008100308
He and others of his ilk are mostly to blame for the mess we're in now. We ought to fire all of our congress critters and pull names out of the phone book. Probably get more for our tax dollars then.
I work for a government agency and all of our hard drives are degaussed after failure. Users are cautioned NOT to save things to the drive as the policy is no data recovery efforts will be taken. A one shot effort is made to reformat the drive and install a new image. If that fails the drive is replaced and the old one goes to the degausser. I just love to hear them pop!
I too, like the album/CD format. Many of the tracks that aren't radio 'friendly' do grow on you and can become personal favorites. Modern radio has taken a handful of listener friendly tracks and THAT'S ALL YOU HEAR! For example: Fleetwood Mac, Boston, BTO - I can't stand them any more. Favorite bands back in the day.
Also, if I can't have the physical media to use as a master backup copy for personal use - They're not getting my money. They can DRM themselves to hell and poverty for all I care.
I don't know about any level of sanity within DOJ but I have worked there on and off for the past 5 years. The lawyers do prefer WordPerfect because Corel caters to them. However, most divisions do install both office suites because of the large number of outside agencies that do use MS Word and the other crap portions of Office. Version creep was so bad in one unnamed division that WordPerfect 8, 9, and 10 were supported. Along with Netscape 4.75, 4.79, 7.0, and 7.1!! Then there were the 3 versions of the Adobe Reader.
According to my take on this incident, she put the soft, deformable cup between her legs!!! C'mon, coffee is made from BOILING water.
There's too many frikkin' lawyers out there w/o honest jobs. IMHO the shysters are always on the prowl for the poor bastard who can provide the big 'payday'.
I would really like to have a TiVo or Replay box in my house but REALLY don't need to add to my per month entertainment fee. Fer cryin' out loud!! My cable TV and Comcast internet already cost just under $100:( And that's WITHOUT premium channels!! Satellite radio for less than 2 hours per day on weekdays during the commuter grind just isn't good value when put up against free radio, cassette deck, iPod, and CD player. Free options make the cut.
If I can't copy MY purchased CD into my iPod, I'll live with the old ones I already own. New artists generally suck, and the RIAA sucks more. It's probably not going to overcome all these years of current fair use practices. As for Bon Jovi, OK band for those teenage years when you're brains are on hormone overload.
While all the available books out there on all of the techy subject areas may have useful info, there is no substitute for 'hands on' time. Boot camps and intense (and short)training courses do not linger in any one area log enough to master the subject. Some areas could benefit from apprenticeship programs. My company does not provide opportunities for hell desk personnel to move onward and upward to network admin. These are the people who spend a lot of time with the nose in the book but can't get ahead -- no hands on time. M$ certs are now designed for those with the book skill and hands on experience. Catch -22.

Rape is NEVER funny. Tag me for troll, it's still NOT funny.
I thought they'd finally gotten to light sabres . . . Now I have to go back and find my popgun.
It needs to have a user replaceable battery to make it just a little bit better. Now, the battery dies and you're SOL.
Deliberately putting out a troll: Spanish is more of a threat to English due to cfommercial interests kissing up to those who won't assimilate!

Sail on over to the isle for the sale on aisle 4.
Spellchek, indeed!
If we could get DVRs w/o these sorry ass 'service' contracts we'd be much better off. I CAN program a VCR!!

Excellent suggestion!! Read them all, damn you!
DataPlay stuck their foot in it by embracing DRM. Tell me, where are they now? HAH!!

Fortunately for me, my wife doesn't care for diamonds. She does, however, absolutely adore pearls. Cheaper too!!
