"I drink around eight cups of coffee a day, along with a soda or two, and I definitely suffer from nasty withdrawal symptoms without my fix."

Amateur. I used to drink 1.5 two liter bottles of Coke every damn day. Then in January I dropped that to two 12 ounce bottles a day. Then in February I dropped that to one 12 ounce bottle a day. And then last month I dropped it to one bottle a week.

Headaches? Yep, got those. Know what I did about them? I took a couple advil and crawled into a dark hole. After a few days the headaches stopped and I was fine.

I noticed a few things, too. One, I could eat spicy food again. It used to be I had to take an antacid if I was even going to LOOK at something spicy. Now? I eat what I want. I don't get crippling migraines anymore. I don't have those days where I feel like something died in my gut. I don't have "days" of any sort anymore - I have more energy, I can think more clearly and best of all I've got back all the money I used to spend on Coke. Plus since what I am drinking is made with sugar rather than HFCS I'm not bombarding my system with that crap any more.

Yes, caffeine withdrawal is a bitch, but it's worth it. When you consume a drug it should be because you WANT to, not because you NEED to.

  13. Re:Tough shit. on At Atlantic Records, Digital Sales Surpass CDs · · Score: 5, Insightful

How many CD's did you buy in the late 90's that was complete crap besides the one song they played on the radio 3-times an hour?

So there were NO good acts or albums from the late 90s? Seriously? None?

I'm SO sick of this argument. The late 90s were a bonanza of awesome music. If you were wasting your time with top 40 pap that's your problem, and not really the fault of the record companies. The same is true today: there is an unending stream of incredible music being released by talented musicians and if you can't find it you've got nobody to blame but the person you see in the mirror every morning.

You're saying that my cherished 25-year-old Mold-a-rama figure of a dolphin from Chicago's Brooklyn Zoo is LESS important than some smelly old animal in China.

Wow. Grow a set of priorities, man.

Seriously though, preserving one does not preclude preservation of the other. I think it's safe to say we all care about pandas (awww, they're cuuuute!) but that doesn't mean we should knock down the museums to build panda habitats.

I've got an original UK Harvest release of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. Sure, Dark Side has been released about half a billion times, but the sound quality on this is among the best. I'd as soon as not lose it, because they're very, very difficult to find.

Also nearly irreplaceable is my original release of David Sylvian and Robert Fripp's "Damage". It, too, was re-released, but with a different mix which is nowhere near as good as the original.

So there are SOME irreplaceable discs out there. Not everything is mass-produced, unfortunately.
