"I drink around eight cups of coffee a day, along with a soda or two, and I definitely suffer from nasty withdrawal symptoms without my fix."
Amateur. I used to drink 1.5 two liter bottles of Coke every damn day. Then in January I dropped that to two 12 ounce bottles a day. Then in February I dropped that to one 12 ounce bottle a day. And then last month I dropped it to one bottle a week.
Headaches? Yep, got those. Know what I did about them? I took a couple advil and crawled into a dark hole. After a few days the headaches stopped and I was fine.
I noticed a few things, too. One, I could eat spicy food again. It used to be I had to take an antacid if I was even going to LOOK at something spicy. Now? I eat what I want. I don't get crippling migraines anymore. I don't have those days where I feel like something died in my gut. I don't have "days" of any sort anymore - I have more energy, I can think more clearly and best of all I've got back all the money I used to spend on Coke. Plus since what I am drinking is made with sugar rather than HFCS I'm not bombarding my system with that crap any more.
Yes, caffeine withdrawal is a bitch, but it's worth it. When you consume a drug it should be because you WANT to, not because you NEED to.
"When you have a thousand CDs, it's really hard to keep them physically organized"
Speaking as someone with a 1,500 CD collection, I have more trouble keeping the digitised versions of my collection organised than I do the physical media.
How many CD's did you buy in the late 90's that was complete crap besides the one song they played on the radio 3-times an hour?
So there were NO good acts or albums from the late 90s? Seriously? None?
I'm SO sick of this argument. The late 90s were a bonanza of awesome music. If you were wasting your time with top 40 pap that's your problem, and not really the fault of the record companies. The same is true today: there is an unending stream of incredible music being released by talented musicians and if you can't find it you've got nobody to blame but the person you see in the mirror every morning.
Well that's just stupid. Are you saying pandas are more important than cultural ephemera? Seriously now, consider what you're saying here. You're saying that my cherished 25-year-old Mold-a-rama figure of a dolphin from Chicago's Brooklyn Zoo is LESS important than some smelly old animal in China.
Wow. Grow a set of priorities, man.
Seriously though, preserving one does not preclude preservation of the other. I think it's safe to say we all care about pandas (awww, they're cuuuute!) but that doesn't mean we should knock down the museums to build panda habitats.
FYI, my MacBook was just over 1/3 of your $3,000 pricetag. Granted, it has a craptastic Intel GMA 950 graphics chipset instead of a proper video card, but it does the job.
@Richard - dude, I own a Mac and *I* won't pay for the OS. The only OS I pay for is the one which comes with the machine. For anything newer, there's bit torrent. Like it or not, 'true' Mac users "pirate" the OS.
I've got an original UK Harvest release of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. Sure, Dark Side has been released about half a billion times, but the sound quality on this is among the best. I'd as soon as not lose it, because they're very, very difficult to find.
Also nearly irreplaceable is my original release of David Sylvian and Robert Fripp's "Damage". It, too, was re-released, but with a different mix which is nowhere near as good as the original.
So there are SOME irreplaceable discs out there. Not everything is mass-produced, unfortunately.
Yes, but the red light cameras are of dubious legality. I'm still waiting for the first 5th amendment lawsuit against a municipality employing these things. You have the right to not incriminate yourself.
I'm all for the police being employed to fight actual crime, but when they become the revenue enforcement agency for the city...that's not really in their mission statement. "To protect and to serve" doesn't include debt collection.
We can rebuild it. We have the technology.
But we don't want to spend a lot of money.
"Troll"? Seriously? For stating the bleeding obvious? Awesome.
Well...yes. Who else? They made the device, they should be able to profit from it.

The more they occupy their time with frivolous stuff like this, the less time they have to plan their next rape of our rights and pocketbooks.
Him. Where's Scotty when we need HIM.
*sigh*
Also, these things cannot suspend the laws of physics.
Where's Scotty when we need?
Or they could just get rid of all of them and just sell us Windows 7. One version. Would that be a bad thing?
I bet Intego did to gin up sales for their software.
Why would I want to? Are they delicious?

Well, no shit. Their old business model of selling a $15 CD with 1 good song---aka ripping people off--doesn't fly anymore.
So there's never been an artist with an album that was consistently good? REALLY?

Slashdot never could get the hang of Thursdays.
I'm not sure how you failed to understand the summary. It was fully buzzword-compliant.
As opposed to that non-toxic, safe-to-eat, oh-so-good-for-you ammonia they sell down at the cleaning supplies store?
Clearly the tourist was asking for it, wearing that coat all sexy-like.
You are correct sir. *facepalm* I LOVE that place. You'd think I could get the name right!

This means the scammers can rip buyers off even more efficiently. Good job, eBay!

I can't imagine that bringing back specimens from millenia ago is going to be very prudent.
Well, at least not at this juncture.
