the problem with using RFID for stuff like EZpass or whatever is that it is a well documented standard.
Once it become worthwhile people will be creating duplicates devices, think of the problems with people stealing garage door opening signals and they are more protected then RFIDs.
Since RFID work by having a burst of energy at it and then reporting its number you could carry a couple of common item RFIDs in your purse/wallet and for all purposes be untrackable since anyone who tracked you would be flooded with signals back. Also I guess you will start to see a simple device that reports a powerfull random signle everything it get scanned.
It is time the US government did something to track foreign visitors, now if they just make use of the new technologies.
Before all you point to western Europe as this place where this does not happen, travel thier sometime. Most Europian counties have a division that just tracks foreignors. When you move in,semi-permanent, you have to report to them and give them all information(fingerprints in some places, blood samples in other counties also). If you move, want to change job, want to marry a local person all of that has to be approved. If you are late by more then a few hours the local police will come and visit you and see why you have not filled out the form with that other government office.
If you are just taking a vacation what happens when the hotel takes your passport. All of your personnel information is copied down and sent to a central database were they track you.
Get off your hate filled speech and look at what is required from the US system compared to what the rest of the world is requiring.
It is not just the consoles desk, everygame I have purchased in past 6 months that I can remember have had the same generic statement. I recently got some development tools that had a warning about it.
The epileptic seizures warning is about as common as the "warning may contain peanuts" that is on almost every prepackaged food product.
But you are missing the main point he was skirting around, the person who created was back in the Soviet Union, but because of the slow computers and bad computer chips it just reached the western side of the internet last month.
Raph talk alot but does not do anything besides that.
Look at SWG and UO both had him in with early design and work and both did not start to become with while until he left.
In SWG where he had the power to implement alot of what he talkes about with customer support and things of that manner he did not do or even try to push.
Sure read his site but for information on how to do stuff not for example where he has actually done it.
Ok, at the end you have the free porn sites with alot of hotmail or whatever email accounts. So what do they do with them or who do they sell them to? The value of them cannot be that high since you would only get one shot after which the site would close them down for sending alot of spam.
It matters for money.
For the oscars if a movie wins it can almost guarenteed to make at least 50% more money if it or an actor(ess) wins. Then for movies such as Monsters Ball or Cold mountain which hardly anyone would see it can mean more then double the amount they would normally get.
rent has been around in MUDs for a long time; however thier are few problems which is why most designers dropped it. However it also has the benifit of keep high level items out of hte reach of low level characters since they could not keep up the rent.
Main problems are
1) Made it a requirment that you log on just to kill, no just chatting around with friends or not earning money.
2) Made it impossible for casual players to get any of the good stuff, because they could not kill enough to keep items.
If they ever did something like this it would be far easier to just get an RFID strip that responded to every request and stick it in the corner of your wallet or purse. Problem solved.
However what is happening in MMORPGS is NOT inflation, it is simple supply and demand and greed.
Under inflation the price to produce items increase, no MMORPG has this. Even in SWG where everything is player made all the things like raw materials, travel, cost to run housing and factories all are constant.
Now if any game started to raise or lower thoses costs based on the total amounts of in game money they you would start to see inflation.
Thus, their profit disappears, and it is no longer profitable to sell razors
No it becomes unprofitable to sell to Walmart. The company has every right to stop selling to them, in which case Walmart will have to find another company with better management who will sell to them. If theses companies were not making a better then 7% profit they would not be selling to Walmart.
The 7% is based on about what you can expect to make over time by putting large amounts of money in a safe investment.
Thier general fear is that clothing and other things will have a EULA that prevents you from removing the tag, then every companies will sell thoses tag numbers to others and you will be tracked everywhere you go.
overall it is just the word walmart that is driving the fear in this thread. For some reason alot of the people here want to feel above the others because they spend more of thier parents money on an item that other purchase for less.
Use Target or K-Mart instead.
For all thoses complaining about low price, get real. When is the last time any of you when grocery shopping(providing groceries are not just delivered to you) have gone to a local bakery, meat shop, fishmonger, and green grocer just to pick up the individual items they sell? You probably went to gaint supermarket to pick them all up; if you did thier is no difference between that and going to Walmart.
Since it makes you happy to think you are better then others who don't want to spend more for a product then go ahead and shop wherever else you want.
Alot of companies already have propietary systems similar to what RFID does in terms of tracking inventory on site or still use bar code and have people manually scan it in.
As for the slow rate of adoption you nail it, it is expensive to change so why do it until needed or others have done it and lowered the cost.
When Raph Koster got done creating one of the worst designed MMORPG ever, aka SWG, he got promoted to head of Sony MMORPG-Online division, at that time he put the hold on EQ2 so that it could be modified more that what he wanted.
Frankly, I am really scared that EQ2 will turn out to be a really, really bad game.
What I have done is just create a small image with my signature and then paste that in. If you have a scanner available, probably more common then a graphic tablet, then scan one in and use that.
Also this does point to one problem with accepting signatures, without a witness. It is far to easy for the person to claim it is a forgery. I have around 50 documents in various places and with various people that have the exact same signature; it would be extermly easy for me to claim that someone forged my signature and then use any of thoses documents as the original.

Amazon has a distribution center in Kansas, which is why they have to collect the taxes.

Well provided that the games were worth $49.50 each.

Theses changes are still SWG dev wet dreams. They are still working on adding stuff they said when they would add when the game was released.

French in french fries refers to the type of cut. So if you get something like texas style french fries something is wrong.
I am currently in Belgium and they are at 21% VAT.
Proof that Foxnews is biased.
It is not a liberal mouthpiece like CNN,MSNBC,ABC,CBS, NPR and others so it must be biased.

I am using outlook XP with windows XP and Mozilla 2.5 and don't have this problem.
The only time I ever see ie is when I use windows update
